The birds were awesome to see. The coffee was good, the pastries were fine, the service was so-so. But, the main reason to stop by this cafe is to see and photograph the dozens of hummingbirds buzzing around everywhere.

This cafe is located conveniently near the gates of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve so it is an easy place to stop by on your way to or back from the forest. We ordered delicious hot chocolates and sat outside to admire the hummingbirds that were eating from several feeders placed all around the garden. The hummingbirds seemed not to be afraid of people and therefore they were really easy to observe and photograph. We saw eight species of these beautiful birds so it is a must-see destination for every birdwatcher!

Just outside of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is the Hummingbird Cafe. You can get a cup of coffee and a bite to eat (we enjoyed the empanadas) while you are there. However, sitting outside watching the innumerable hummingbirds coming up to the feeders, we were not pressured to go inside and purchase anything. The hummingbird garden at Selvatura is comparable, but visiting the cafe is a free attraction. It is absolutely worth stopping by this cafe.

We visited this place because we'd heard it was a fantastic place to see hummingbirds and we were not disappointed. Maybe 10 feeders all around the cafe were simply inundated with birds and you could get so close up. Probably the best place in the whole of Costa Rica to see these amazing birds. As far as the cafe goes however, average at best, but this should not put you off visiting

We went to see if it is true that there is so many hummingbirds and I can definitely say yes. They pass so close to your head you almost feel the wings. Bonus the coffee was excellente. Was one of the best lattes I had and belaive me had many in the past. Didn't really eat there, but would really go back for the coffee and all the amazing hummingbirds.
