“NOT the best ice-cream in Brussels”
Review of Capoue

I think it is one of the oldest and best-established ice-cream shops in Brussels, so if you ask locals they will tell you it's the best ice-creams in town. Far from truth, their quality is mediocre, and the staff is kind of rude and unattending (especially when long queues).

Let's start with the ice. My friends and I always have a reference Ice Cream. We take that taste in every Ice Shop in order to make a good comparison. I chose Lemon. It was avarage at best. Taste did not remind me of Lemon. I've gone back a few more times to double check whether they made a mistake, but the quality never improved.
I'll go back again soon as Capoue now do not store their ice outside in a cooling van anymore but inside ( apparently they were a bit of a menace in the neighbourhood with their noise production ) which I hope improves things a bit (idle hope?).
Their service can only be rated as average because of their language skills. In a tri-lingual city as Brussels you need to know Dutch, French, English and possibly a bit of German as the 3rd countries language. Or at least the basics to take an order.
Their menu is very good. A good selection and nicely presented.
On hot days you can order your ice-cream outside for take-away. Prepare for long lines in weekends.
But for the moment I prefer the Ice Cream at Carpe Diem 50 meters up the street. A bit more expensive, but better seating, service and Ice Cream.
