If you want English tea, Watney's Red Barrel and discussions on Enoch Powell this is not the place for you. This a typical resort for Spanish families. Punta Umbria is a lovely resort/fishing village right on the point where the river meets the sea. The golden beaches stretch for miles and there are conservation areas all around. You will see snakes, chameleons, storks (nesting on the pylons), flamingos, chameleons and, if you're very lucky, a lynx.
The hotel is superb and is just off the beach. The food and drink are excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. Most people in the hotel are Spanish. It has an excellent pool with a lifeguard and also a spa which includes an indoor pool. The rooms are excellent with plenty of room and I would suggest paying the extra for a sea view.
Nearby Huelva boasts the oldest football team in Spain founded by an Englishman, Sir Charles Adam, in 1877. Huelva has an English quarter with the houses laid out like an English suburban estate but the houses are now occupied by Spanish families.
Saga and Thomas Cook do packages here.
This was my second visit and I will certainly come again.More
