My wife and I visited recently for 3 nights with the intention of having a romantic time away with minimal tourists and excellent scenery. This hotel provides that, but there are a few points to consider for people wanting to stay in this area/hotel:
1. Campione d'Italia is a very small town with just a few shops and couple of bars/restaurants, so ideally this would be a location for a relaxing time but if you want food from a supermarket/other restaurant, then you will have to travel a couple of miles near the Melida Station, which there is a coop, etc.....or you can go to Lugano Town, which is about 20-30 mins by car/bus.
2. The hotel has it's own restaurant but the menu is limited, as is the morning breakfast, which are the main reasons to give this hotel a 4/5. There is a menu for other food, but you have to pay extra for that (omelet, pasta, etc)
3. I booked a premium room, and I have to say the view is amazing! Much better than the Lake Como region, in my opinion. We were on the 3rd floor and I agree that any floors below that would not truly magnify the beautiful view. I did ask for an upgrade to a suite/gran premium room, but unfortunately the hotel was fully booked. Funnily enough, we had a balcony, which added to the experience, so were very happy.

4. Buses operate hourly! So make sure you ask the reception when the next one is due and plan accordingly....I found the buses and trains to be exact on time.
5. We got off at Lineate airport. The hotel charges, I think 190 euros for airport transfer, but after discussion with a VIP company at the airport, we got transfer there and back for 150 euros each way....New Mercedes, etc...….added to a great experience. The metered taxi quote was 160 euros.
6. The room was very clean and romantic with carpet, a comfortable bed, nice bathroom. We also utilised the Spa on the final day, and were impressed by it's beauty.
7. Please note, the area falls within Switzerland, so food, etc is not cheap, so make sure you have a lot of spending money.....or utilise your time at Lake Como (or Italian region), where things are a lot cheaper.
8. Things that we did while we were there:
---- Day 1: Walked alongside the Lake Lugano, saw the sunset (amazing), had an ice cream (amazing also), saw a few local sites, and went to a local restaurant....The pizzeria restaurant is amazing food.
----Day 2: Went to Lake Como via bus and train. Getting a taxi from this area will be very expensive (quoted 110 euros), however when we came back from Lake Como, the taxi cost 80 euros. At Lake Como, we did a boat trip, and then went to the shops and market. Finished off with dinner and drinks at a nice restaurant by the lake.
---Day 3: Went to Lugano City, amazing views and an array of shops.
Unfortunately, we did not have the time to go to Bellagio, but they have speed boats from Lake Como going there, and very reasonably priced.
Overall, I would say a great place, and ideal for couples and preferably should be utilised as a 'base camp', with the aim of travelling to the busier places, which are not too far. Hiring a car would be ideal and quick, however we decided against that as wanted the experience of the public transport, etc.
Hope this helps.More
