“Home from home”

just returned from a lovely 4 week break in Barbados. We really enjoyed our time in Gingerbread. Carol, Dick and Lottie were perfect hosts always there if you needed them but willing to let you get on with it if that's what you preferred. The cottage itself was lovely to nice bedrooms and a big living area with a well stocked kitchen and cable TV. However the highlight was the veranda where you can sit and what the green monkeys play and look out over Westmoreland gold course to the the sea.
The pool is a good size and never felt crowded even on the odd occasions when all the guests were using it. We meet some lovely people in our time here. You will need a hire car but Carol can arrange that for you which makes it much easy.
Definitely the place to stay if you want independent living in Barbados

“Totally relaxing”

We've just returned from a couple of week's stay accompanied by our two young boys at Gingerbread Cottage and it was everything we could have hoped for and more. Carol & Dick manage the place beautifully, providing everything you need for a totally relaxed holiday. They were always available if we needed them as they live within the grounds, but they totally respected our privacy only coming to the cottage to deliver laundry, which they usually had back to us within a day.
The cottage and surrounding gardens are as lovely as they look in the pictures. The large verandah on both sides of the house benefits from a cooling breeze and is divine to sit out on at any time of day or night and from which there are lovely views across the valley and down to the Caribbean Ocean.
The cottage is well maintained, spacious and homely and is just a few yards from the clean cooling swimming pool which we had pretty much to ourselves for the duration of our stay and where we also made use of the large gas BBQ.
The property is a 20 minute walk/ 5 minute car journey to central Holetown and is therefore not on the coast, but for us it was great to get out of the hustle and bustle of Holetown and back to our quiet relaxing cottage, where we could watch the passing monkeys and cool down in the pool.
Carol hired us a car, which was waiting for us outside the cottage upon arrival and arranged for a car seat for our 3 year old, it couldn't have been easier.
We enjoyed our holiday so much, not only as the place is so pretty and relaxing, but because Carol and Dick were so kind and chillled out. We really can't thank them enough for our wonderful holiday and wish we could have stayed for longer and would not hesitate to recommend the place to anyone.

We loved our stay at Gingerbread Cottage! It is set in lush surroundings with a gorgeous swimming pool and Carol & Dick Are so welcoming and friendly. We are a family of 4 with a 6 yr old and a 2 yr old. The kids loved the pool and watching the visiting monkeys. The cottage has everything you need including beach towels and extra linen and washing machine facilities on site. 5 mins to incredible beaches. Perfect!

“Perfect place to stay”
Reviewed 3 April 2013 for a stay in March 2013

My husband, son and partner and I stayed here for a week in March. Carol arranged our car for us and the whole experience was wonderful. The cottage is perfect for 4 people. Everything you could need is provided, and the hosts go out of their way to make the stay enjoyable. It is just a few minutes from Holetown where there are some great restaurants, and driving the island is a breeze. Highly recommend Gingerbread cottage for a Barbadian adventure..we will be back!!

“A gem in the caribbean”

We arrived late 7pm ish (plane delayed due to Sandy) and as soon as we arrived Carol welcomed us and told us to take a late swim if we wanted, not to worry about anything and just have fun.

The cottage was exactly as the pictures showed.
It was clean and had everything we needed.
Good shower with lots of hot water.
Nice comfy beds and lots of towels for the beach and the bath.
Toilet roll and soap.
The kitchen had everything - plenty of plates, cups, glasses and bowls etc. A large fridge and washing up liquid too.
There was a washing machine behind the pool but as the weather was so wonderful we spent most of our time in swimming costumes and so did not need to use it.
The grounds were lovely and we saw monkeys most days.

The pool was lovely and we had it all to ourselves most of the time- the kids really had a lovely time at the pool and using the diving board.
There is an excellent selection of books and a TV with Cable for a good variety of channels ( including 4/5 movie channels).
There was not a DVD player but Dick offered one for use straight away - we declined as the TV was enough.
The veranda was a real plus and we spent lots of evenings sitting out after eating and chatting or playing cards with the kids.
We felt very safe at all times.
Carol and Dick were lovely checking everything was ok and letting us know what events were on every couple of days but they also left us to ourselves.

Some other bits:
You really need a car to get around - beaches 10 minutes away - we liked Gibbs / Mullens and Paynes.
Supermarket in Holetown had everything you needed and again was 10 minutes away and has a web sight so you can look at times etc before arriving - Super Centre.
Next to the supermarket is a petrol station too.
Several good places to eat in Holetown.
Our only suggestion would be a draining board for washing up and mosquito nets at the bedroom windows so that you can have a breeze all night long - we would not have wanted air con it would have spoilt the cottage.

One day we hope to come back and enjoy it all again.
