I was so happy to see this unique place with historical mills still alive and working.
When you are there you can ask the old man Ahmad to turn on one of the mills and see how it works. Its amazing.

This is UNESCO world cultural heritage site and really a must see in this region you will be amazed by water engineering in Sassanid era and how they used natural resources and using water to obtain energy for water mild (an amazing industrial site in the agricultural period) even they changed the rivers way to the city in order to use it and don’t forget to visit Shavadan in Shushtar because it shows you an extraordinarily amazing 2 floors city and how they used under ground for climatic and safety purposes I really recommend this place it’s unique

This is the no. 1 reason to come to this dusty hot town close to the iraqi border. We lingered here a while, had tea with a local guide stationed there and paid a bit extra for the sluice to get opened with a photo op. There is also a local guy based there doing weaving with items for sale in the form of bags and mats. The history is interesting bearing in mind that this is in the middle of an agricultural area. Worth a trip if your itineray is not too tight.

These ancient roman built hydraulic mills are a definite must see. It's absolutely amazing how clever and intelligently they were built, resisting the inclemencies of time.
There are guides who can well explain all details such as dates, periods, what was done and how.
Best time to visit is early evening as it is fresher. Those with limited mobility must pay attention, no access for wheel chairs and many, many steps to go down and climb.
Must see attractive in Shushtar.
