We had an enjoyable stay at the Lodge. Especially love the unique & lovely design of the lodge. The host is an amazing artist who built and design the place...can see it was so thoughtfully planned with so much details in it. We didn’t drive but the host was nice enough to offer us a lift from the bus stop by his lovely car.

There is a nice fireplace inside the room, fully equipped kitchen and couches with daylight. It was located within walking distance to the lagoon for kayaking and a short walk to the beach. Highly recommend this place to anyone consider getting to Okarito or even Franz Josef.

Okarito Lagoon is a must do if you like leaving the hustle and bustle of the beaten path. This small hamlet on the NZ West Coast is a small beach town with no stores, pubs or any other trappings of the western world, but in its place you have the sound of crashing waves, a beautiful tidal lagoon, incidentally the largest on the South Island, and abundant bird life. We Stayed a Code Time lodge which is a beautifully designed and quirkily lodge much of made with local material. However, the design is original and fun and the bedrooms are comfortable with all the amenities one would want when trying to escape. There are plenty of places to read a book, relax or just listen to the surf. The owner, is very friendly and had stocked the fridge with basic for our arrival, with milk and eggs and some cereal and fruit. If you are luck enough to come visit, I highly recommend it. I would suggest stocking up with food that you want to cook before you getting into town, because there is very little here.

We love Okarito for its wild beach, view of Mt Cook from the trig walk and lack of commercialisation. We were delighted to find somewhere to stay that matched the vibe.
Shane is a relaxed host who has designed and built the accommodation himself with a unique twist of contemporary style with driftwood accents (which you wouldn't guess at from the outside).
Shane was kind enough to set the huge outdoor fire crucible going for us when we returned from watching the sunset from the beach so we could warm up. We cooked our lamb rumps on the embers later - delicious.
The bed in the Golden Sands room was super comfy and it's great to lie in bed watching the flames from the studio wood burner in the bedroom. Cosy despite the cold night temperature. Thanks Shane.

We found ourselves in beautiful Okarito without a place to stay and with limited accommodation options. After walking off the street and sharing our plight, Shane the host of Code Time offered us the recently completed group room.

The group room was tastefully decorated and had a very comfortable king bed with 6 king single bunks, toilets, a kitchen and showers. The large room was very clean and had fresh linen.

We absolutely feel in love with Okarito and ended up staying 2 nights. Shane built the lodge with lots of passion and attention to deal. We highly recommend the lodge.

Room tip: All rooms are quiet and warm.

We found this place by chance as we only intended to do some kayaking in the area. We really liked the area for its peaceful, quiet surroundings and a real wind down after the busyiness of fox glacier. The property was immaculate and very tastefully designed and really fitted in to the surroundings. Shane was a real gent and gave us all sorts of tips of places to see etc. We were travelling in a small camper van and this place was a real treat for us, would really recommend this as a place to stay and the kayaking up the lagoon.
The kayaking centre is a 5 minute walk from code time, perfect.

Room tip: Great location, kayaking is a 5 minute walk away.
