Perfect Family-Friendly Hotel

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Oct 2019
Stayed at this hotel with my family for 1 week. We had a wonderful time, especially as the hotel is right on BBC beach. Compared to staying at hotels alongside Grand Anse Beach, this hotel offers you a smaller, but quieter and just as beautiful beach.

We had two rooms which featured all essential amenities including a fridge and kettle. The beds are huge and 4-poster, so you can hang your mosquito nets from them. Our rooms were on the first floor so we had amazing sea views.

The resort also offers a swimming pool with a swim-up bar, you can use kayaks & snorkelling equipment and you get pool towels every day. There is a hotel restaurant which is reasonably priced, but there is also a café along BBC beach. The hotel also grants you free access to the Fantasia night club on site, where there are events on Wednesdays (Old School Reggae) and Fridays (Modern music).

The staff were very professional and friendly. Although the resort is not big, the staff make you feel at home. Special thanks to the receptionist Ramon who helped accommodate our every need, Jamal the bartender who makes the best cocktails and Prince the amazing DJ.

While the hotel is secluded and you honestly feel like you are in paradise, it’s a long walk uphill to get anywhere else (and it’s not on a bus route). So if you do need to get anywhere (St Georges, etc), you need to either walk to the nearest bus stop at the shopping mall (~20 minute walk), or get a taxi. Nevertheless, it’s only a 10 minute walk to the renowned Grand Anse beach which features various hotels and bars. So this is why the hotel did not get my 5-star rating, but if location/walking is not a problem for you, then it is 5-star 😊 and I would definitely come back again!

Room Tip: Choose a high floor room for better sea views

The hotel is a long hot walk up and down a hill to the main road where you can get public transportation. It's on the beach and is fairly quiet because there is not much around other than other hotels and condos. The hotel is old and the room we stayed in was decorated in a 1970s style. The king bed was more like a queen bed and if you like a firm bed you will like it. The dampness in the room made the drawers and doors stick. There is no elevator, so be prepared to take your suitcase up 2 or 3 floors. There were ants in the electric pot that heated water for coffee or tea. The advertised cable tv only had a few channels. Only 1 key per room was given out. On the positive side, the view from the room was very nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. LaPlywood nearby is a great place for a delicious inexpensive meal.

We travelled with our twin boys. We had a lovely time, the pool was very quiet and our sons had a great time.
We had lunch here several days and found this very tasty and good value. Staff very friendly. Would visit again, love Grenada.

We stayed just before the start of the rainy season and enjoyed a week of sunshine with the odd shower and high temperatures. The hotel is small (6 out of the 30 rooms were occupied.) Lovely , well maintained pool but lacked atmosphere Gorgeous almost deserted beach (apart from weekend) There are tethered inflatable slides andtrampolines for children (local charge). We found 4 large starfish in shallow , clear, calm waters. The sunloungers were of the old style plastic strap variety but personally I found them quite comfortable. A few beach hawkers around but they didn’t cause a problem
Beds were comfortable., air conditioning efficient and quiet. Ants on the patio from the garden were vicious and caused more aggro than any other biting insect! Overall we ate quite well but often had to wait a long time for the food to arrive. . Apparently guests don’t often ask for salt and pepper , so most of the pots were empty or without stoppers. My husband rated the sausages highly .There were no tours on offer so we hired a taxi for the morning - expensive at $30US per hour. There are no straight roads so it takes a long time to get anywhere. Beautiful mountainous scenery and dramatic waterfalls. I would recommend a visit to Laura’s herb and spice garden - a guide will let you taste all sorts of things, very interesting. Airport not too bad for duty free shopping, although if you want to buy cigarettes, get them from a duty free shop in St George’s where they are half the price again.

The hotel itself is great - right on BBC beach which is probably the best beach in the area. The hotel consists of a pool and pool bar - Pedro the bartender is amazing! and honestly hes one of the reasons we had a great holiday! All the staff at the hotel were great. I have to say when ordering food, the service in Grenada is some what slow - so please expect to wait 30-40 mins minimum for your food. I would highly recommend the fish bites - its 28EC for a big plate of fried fish, chips and salad/coleslaw. Pedro at the bar is super quick and whips up the meanest cocktails! If your travelling with kids like we did, there is a trampoline outside for the kids, and the pool is not that deep.
The location of the hotel is ok to use as a base to get around - you'll be walking up a hill. Having said that - we went to Grenada to get a cultural experience and if locals can walk up hills in the heat - we thought so can we! There is a short cut through Gems holiday resort to grand anse beach (which is next door) making the journey easier. I would say it would be beneficial for the hotel to run a shuttle service to town for guests.
Overall, it was a great holiday. The staff were friendly and very accomodating, especially with the kids.

If I could give 0 stars I would. The only saving grace was the bartender by the pool. We arranged with the staff here to have a table prepared as a surprise for a friend's going away lime and we got there with no prepared table, had to gather and do it ourselves quickly before our guest of honour, was told after that breakfast was ending within a half hour which we contested as we couldn't settle into our paid day passes, even though we arrived early. They gave in and allowed us to order breakfast but told us they had 4 orders of eggs in the hotel left...
Continuing into the day we were told multiple times about what we could not have despite our prior instructions of unlimited non alcoholic and 4 alcoholic drinks. We were told about being provided towels during our stay, which we were informed that there was 1 towel left... and we didn't walk with towels because we were told we would have... we got to lunch and were told now there is a limited menu which was further limited by them not having any more coleslaw. Throughout the day they lacked ice cream and fruits for their cocktails which left us with bare basic drink options...
The service besides the bartender and maintenance man was very poor. Both meals, even though the hotel was fairly empty, took over an hour to get to us. The food at breakfast was fine, at lunch was not tasty at all, minus mashed potatoes.
I strongly advise against doing a day pass here you will be seriously disappointed. Awful experience.
