Right on the beach

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 12 Jun 2019
We stayed just before the start of the rainy season and enjoyed a week of sunshine with the odd shower and high temperatures. The hotel is small (6 out of the 30 rooms were occupied.) Lovely , well maintained pool but lacked atmosphere Gorgeous almost deserted beach (apart from weekend) There are tethered inflatable slides andtrampolines for children (local charge). We found 4 large starfish in shallow , clear, calm waters. The sunloungers were of the old style plastic strap variety but personally I found them quite comfortable. A few beach hawkers around but they didn’t cause a problem
Beds were comfortable., air conditioning efficient and quiet. Ants on the patio from the garden were vicious and caused more aggro than any other biting insect! Overall we ate quite well but often had to wait a long time for the food to arrive. . Apparently guests don’t often ask for salt and pepper , so most of the pots were empty or without stoppers. My husband rated the sausages highly .There were no tours on offer so we hired a taxi for the morning - expensive at $30US per hour. There are no straight roads so it takes a long time to get anywhere. Beautiful mountainous scenery and dramatic waterfalls. I would recommend a visit to Laura’s herb and spice garden - a guide will let you taste all sorts of things, very interesting. Airport not too bad for duty free shopping, although if you want to buy cigarettes, get them from a duty free shop in St George’s where they are half the price again.

The hotel itself is great - right on BBC beach which is probably the best beach in the area. The hotel consists of a pool and pool bar - Pedro the bartender is amazing! and honestly hes one of the reasons we had a great holiday! All the staff at the hotel were great. I have to say when ordering food, the service in Grenada is some what slow - so please expect to wait 30-40 mins minimum for your food. I would highly recommend the fish bites - its 28EC for a big plate of fried fish, chips and salad/coleslaw. Pedro at the bar is super quick and whips up the meanest cocktails! If your travelling with kids like we did, there is a trampoline outside for the kids, and the pool is not that deep.
The location of the hotel is ok to use as a base to get around - you'll be walking up a hill. Having said that - we went to Grenada to get a cultural experience and if locals can walk up hills in the heat - we thought so can we! There is a short cut through Gems holiday resort to grand anse beach (which is next door) making the journey easier. I would say it would be beneficial for the hotel to run a shuttle service to town for guests.
Overall, it was a great holiday. The staff were friendly and very accomodating, especially with the kids.

If I could give 0 stars I would. The only saving grace was the bartender by the pool. We arranged with the staff here to have a table prepared as a surprise for a friend's going away lime and we got there with no prepared table, had to gather and do it ourselves quickly before our guest of honour, was told after that breakfast was ending within a half hour which we contested as we couldn't settle into our paid day passes, even though we arrived early. They gave in and allowed us to order breakfast but told us they had 4 orders of eggs in the hotel left...
Continuing into the day we were told multiple times about what we could not have despite our prior instructions of unlimited non alcoholic and 4 alcoholic drinks. We were told about being provided towels during our stay, which we were informed that there was 1 towel left... and we didn't walk with towels because we were told we would have... we got to lunch and were told now there is a limited menu which was further limited by them not having any more coleslaw. Throughout the day they lacked ice cream and fruits for their cocktails which left us with bare basic drink options...
The service besides the bartender and maintenance man was very poor. Both meals, even though the hotel was fairly empty, took over an hour to get to us. The food at breakfast was fine, at lunch was not tasty at all, minus mashed potatoes.
I strongly advise against doing a day pass here you will be seriously disappointed. Awful experience.

Booked a four night stay due to reasonable cost. As I read up on all reviews of this place, many commented that the location is not convenient and walk up the driveway was very steep. Little did I realize that this place is nowhere near anything. Unless you want to eat at the hotel, you will need to #1) walk , or #2) take a us$10 one way 5 minute taxi ride to Spiceland Mall, which has a grocery store, several fast food choices, like KFC. Across the mall are other resorts and restaurants.
Taxi from airport to hotel is US$16 one way.

The room we specifically booked was a "superior double room with ocean view". Although we can clearly see the hotel was not fully booked, or even half booked, we were given Room #2 on the ground floor. As evidenced by the fourth photo, our ocean view is completely blocked by the bar area, with a tiny slice of water view. This was so very different than what is pictured in their website. How can anyone consider this an "ocean view"? That was our first clue that this place is not what many claim to be.
Ceiling fan does not work.
TV remote is a different brand than the TV itself and does not work. Not much to watch on TV anyway but we had to physically push the on/off button for tv to work.
On Thursday nights are karaoke night, so very loud singing will go on and on past 10 pm. I called front desk after 10pm to inquire when it would stop, and she asked me "is it a problem?". It was our first night there and after a long flight, we were exhausted and were trying to sleep. It finally stopped at 10:15 pm.
AC in room works very well, BUT it blows directly on the tops of the beds, so it was very cold. Turning it down does not seem to help, and of course the fan does not work!
Toiletries were never replenished the entire time we were there.
Coffee, cream or, sugar etc were replenished once and I had to go to front desk to personally several times to ask for it, and they either never could find it, or were visibly not happy I was asking.
Outdoor pool area is ok, but chairs are all missing cushions (some ripped ones were just laying on dirt/ground, and looked like they had been on ground for a long time), and lots of assorted chairs and tables.
Service at bar area is dismissive. You can sit at the bar, and unless you personally flag them and order, you will continue to just sit there. We found the attitude at the bar to be the rudest.
When we checked in, they told us to go to bar for a welcome drink. We were tired and did not want them right away, and went 2 days after. They did give us the drinks, but we could tell they were not happy about it.
Location is very secluded, which is great because the beach area is not crowded with people. However, you can't go anywhere without either a brisk walk or taking the rip off US$10 five minute ride down the hill.
We did walk to Umbrellas one day and it was about a 15 minute walk. The steep driveway was a deterrent for most, but once past that, it is completely doable.
We're not sure if it was just this hotel but the service was not up to standards. Sometimes, certain front desk staff will be very helpful and nice, but sometimes they just give us a look like we're bothering them when we have a question. Most staff were not friendly. No "hi", "morning" or even an acknowledgment.
We definitely will not stay here again due to service and location.

Fantastic location right on Mourne Rouge Beach. Rooms fine and quite good size with sea view balcony. Nice ladies on reception. What’s lacking is effort and imagination - with it’s location and fabric it should be much better.
The swimming pool and bar should be really great but is mostly deserted both day and night. If they had a bit of Caribbean background music, comfortable loungers around the pool but mostly someone with a bit of personality behind the bar it could really do well. The last day we were there a couple of local dogs were running around the pool with staff nowhere to be seen !!! Most guests tend to use the little beach bar at the end of the beach at lunchtime and get a cab somewhere in the evening.
Real shame because it has everything there to be something special if someone put in a bit of effort.

This hotel is right on beach and there are plenty of loungers, towels and shade (if desired!) available. There is a bar near the beach and pool and the swim up bar is a nice touch. There are several other great beach bars in the immediate area, all of them worth visiting. Plus you can borrow snorkelling equipment from the hotel to check out the quiet swimming area.

The location is walkable to Grand Anse for other activities, bars, restaurants and shopping. Or taxi is 25ECD.

The food and cocktails are both good here, but we found the service shocking. The wait times for drinks, food and even bills to pay (or charge to the room) were disproportionate to the busyness of the place. More than one time, we ordered a drink and the bartender just started to do something else or wandered off! This seemed to be a common issue amongst other guests as well.

The room could do with updating, but it was adequate and the a/c was excellent. We enjoyed having our own patio near the pool and neck.
