Jewel in the Caribbean!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Oct 2018via mobile
An unspoilt and beautiful part of the Caribbean. The hotel is situated right on BBC beach which is almost private. Grenada has so much to offer with hidden waterfalls and so many places of historic interest. The people are amongst the most friendliest people in the Caribbean, and nothing is a problem. Kalinago resort itself is a pretty decent hotel, even though you will
Spend most of your time out of your room. Beach is like 30 seconds from your room. The sunset is one of the best I’ve ever seen.
You will not be disappointed!

Arrived here yesterday. Beautiful location and the rooms are ok. However the hotel is the most disorganised we’ve ever stayed in. We are on an All Inclusive package with British Airways Holidays, but no one seems to know what our package includes. Apparently it does not include bottled water or half the things on the menu. The hotel staff have told us we can eat in the restaurant next door, but when we went in they said we couldn’t. Dinner last night was delayed by 40 minutes and then we had slow service. Breakfast took 55 minutes to be served after ordering and lunch 45 minutes. When it arrives the food is good but not hot. I accept and expect Caribbean style relaxed service, but the service in this hotel is unacceptably slow. Hopefully things will get better during the rest of our stay. It’s our first and possibly last trip to Grenada if things don’t improve. A shame because the island is beautiful.

Kalinago is located within striking distance of BBC beach. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The hotel management need to upgrade the decor and style of furniture of the rooms. The beds constantly squeeze and move, they have attempted to rectify this by screwing the beds to a wooden bracket, but clearly this hasnt worked. The drawers of the cupboards and cabinets are difficult to open. The television and Wifi reception is very poor. Positives location, good and attractive cleaning staff.

Our family of four had booked a two bedroom apartment at the sister hotel The Gem, but the ocean view was almost non-existing from the terrace (right by the commen stairwell) and the bedrooms were dark and with af view to an alley.
When we requested another room, we were offered a free upgrade to Kalinago right next door. In stead of an apartment we got two adjoining rooms with a small fridge and a coffemaker but it worked out really fine.
The rooms at the Kalinago were big, light and airy and with a great view of the pool and the ocean.
The hotel offers free beach chairs, beach towels and use of sea kayaks and snorkeling equipment.
The staff is friendly and very helpful

Room tip: All rooms face the ocean but the view is better on the top floors.

Lovely place but hotel is substandard. I was amazed at the poor standard of both the rooms and the facilities.
If you are looking for a high Quality venue this is not the place. The hotel is dated to say the least but in reality beds furniture fridge bathroom were all of a poor standard.
The food was also poor with a very limited menu and anything other than fish and chicken was classed as premium and would attract an additional charge even if you have selected an all inclusive option as I made the error of doing.
The cost I paid exceeded previous trips on cruises and in 4/5 star venues in Europe .
While the people are lovely and very helpful service is slow at best and we would often spend up to an hour between courses.
The bar has no draught beers and the local bottled beer won’t be to everyone’s liking.
Bottled water is also classed as Premium along with whisky.
So in summary if you are happy to rough it go room only, our last day we were told there were no eggs or cheese for breakfast!
