“Maalaean Banyans #218 Great Stay”
Reviewed 9 May 2017 for a stay in April 2017

This Condo is a great place to stay. Every morning I would go out to the lanai and watch the sunrise while eating breakfast. There is no need to remember to take a card with you every time you leave, just remember a number. That was one less thing we had to worry about. Listening to the waves was very relaxing. It was a very clean place to stay. We also loved the location, it is center to everything. Not a lot of people around or traffic at the end of April/beginning of May.

Aloha, Casey & Jeffery:

We really appreciate the wondrous review you have given us. Your routine seems like ours. We go out to the Lanai with coffee and watch the Sunrise each morning before our walk. We find it convenient to have a keyless entry system instead of a key or card, which makes it very secure. Another treat as you indicated is the soothing sound of the ocean to wake up to and soothe you to sleep in the evening. The view from the Lanai is hard to beat, being so close to the Ocean. After some research, we purposely bought here just because of the view and sound of the ocean and the central location. We appreciate that you noticed we try to keep our place in great condition as you mentioned and thank you for taking notice. We too enjoy the quaint remote area of Ma’alaea. We enjoy the area as it is less crowded than most touristy areas. We like to drive to busy and come back to relax with less people. We can’t wait until your next visit.

“Maalaea Banyans 218”
Reviewed 22 March 2017 for a stay in March 2017

We had a great time at Maalaea Banyans unit 218. This was based on a recommendation by my sister and brother-in-law who have stayed there before.
After a long flight from the mainland the bed is extremely comfortable. Using my Fitbit I averaged over eight hours of sleep a night. I liked having the dimmer for the lights and the variable speed for the for the ceiling fan right next to the bed.
There is a great selection of kitchen utensils including a great blender. I made frozen Mai Tais every night.
We used your beach chairs when we went to big beach and there was more than an adequate supply of beach towels.
We love to cook out and did that almost each and every night. Our daily lunch routine included sitting out on the lanai.
With binoculars we saw whales, turtles and flying fish. Again this was right from the lanai.
Speaking of the lanai it is nice and private. We love the rack for drying our towels and swimsuits.
If there were any complaints at all it might be that the only hot tub in Maalaea was a little bit too hot for my taste but the pool was refreshing.
Finally the friendliness of the people cannot be equaled, from Daryl in charge of maintenance, to the owner/residents, to the renters.
We have been visiting the Banyans for over 20 years.
I strongly endorse renting here

Aloha, Tom & Sue

Many Mahalo's for the kind review. We are ecstatic that you enjoyed your stay at our “Hideaway”. We are also pleased that you found our bed comfortable enough to sooth yourself to sleep. Yes, it’s nice to have the light and fan controls next to the bed. We try to keep our “Hideaway” stock up enough for us and all of our guests to have everything they may need to cook and relax. We purchased our “Hideaway” because of the view of the ocean and the remote location, away from touristy areas, but close enough to drive too busy if you want. This is why you hear the sound of the ocean in the evening. We often sit on our Lanai for Sunrise and go to our little beach out front to watch the tide pools come alive and yes, to see the flying fish along with the plethora of turtles in the evening and whales in the winter time. The location of our "Hideaway' is a plus as you are at one of the most centrally located secluded places on the Island which makes it easy to get to places. I’m glad you enjoyed our beach accessories for beachcombing. Again, thank you for staying at our “Hideaway” and we are certainly glad you enjoyed your stay and can’t wait to see you again...

“You'll be very pleased to book your stay at the Ma'alaea Banyans Hideaway”
Reviewed 14 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

My husband and I stayed in this lovely condo for one week. The view from the lanai was wonderful and very relaxing, the sound of the waves could be heard all throughout. The condo itself was very quiet, clean, compact, and had everything we needed for the time that we were there (dishes, pans, towels, beach towels, etc). My only regret is that we didn't book a longer trip because we didn't spend much time in the condo itself! I would have loved to relax on the lawn chairs provided by the building and on the lanai itself. However, our days were packed with all the adventures that Maui holds, we certainly made use of our rental car. The one afternoon that we did spend in the condo, the winds and waves were fierce and it wasn't very friendly weather. The very first and last days we could see whales in the horizon. We were very happy that we picked this spot, this was my first VRBO experience, and I was nervous because I'm a skeptic at heart, but I was so pleased and thankful that Wendall and Sally take great care of their lovely hideaway. You're lucky to stay at the Ma'alaea Banyans!

We are glad that you enjoyed the island activities which is a great reason to come to Maui. Hopefully the next time you stay at our Hideaway, you can spend more time at the condo, just relaxing and enjoying the view. We can’t wait until your next visit.

“Beautiful Quiet Centrally Located Hideaway”

We really enjoyed our stay in #218 for two weeks! Very centrally located to visit other areas of Maui. It's a short walk to the Harbor on one end and a short stroll to the other end is the Haycraft Beach Park access with miles of beach to walk! There's a shower area to wash off the sand at the park (& at the condo). It gets a little crowded on the weekends with the locals, but it's entertaining and during the week more private. My husband and I walked to Sugar Beach Resort a few times (almost 3 miles one way) and enjoyed a bite at Dina's Sandwitch (fun unique place to go - opens at 11:00 am). We agree with the other positive reviews so won't duplicate info. We would recommend this unit for a couple or single person, unless you want to use the pull-out bed, but it would be tight. We were able to watch whales from the lanai with our binoculars (the unit does have binoculars, but ours are easier to focus). The complex has it's own private smaller beach we enjoyed almost nightly watching the boats, some whales and turtles swimming. I would recommend getting your own oil/butter, coffee and all food essentials (Costco is close to the airport). The unit is well equipped with pots/pans, dishes, serving/cooking utensils, beach towels, etc. There are coffee filters, salt and pepper and some cooking sprays and one steak seasoning. Would also recommend shutting the drapes once the sunrise turns into direct morning sun, since it can get very warm for a couple hours (good time to hit the road/beach!); though once it passes, the breeze and views are wonderful the rest of the day! There is an air conditioner for those that prefer that, but we don't.

The Maui Dive Shop rents snorkel gear in the harbor, and is very convenient to return. The harbor also has a few eateries that were okay depending on the day. The Happy Hour at Three's in Kihei is a great spot with local shopping booths, also the Happy Hour at 5 Palms & great calamari (can rent paddle boards, kayaks, etc. too). Captain Steve's whale watching excursion was very good. Highly recommend the hike around Dragon's Teeth in Kapalua! The traffic during high season is the drawback, so be patient and go early to your destinations. There is plenty to see and do in Maui and two weeks didn't feel long enough; recommend reading the Maui Revealed book (there's an older release in the unit). The beauty of this condo is its stellar ocean-front view and sounds!!! Enjoy!

Mahalo, for such an extensive and wonderful review.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at our “Hideaway”.
We purchased our “Hideaway” because of the view of the ocean and the remote location, away from touristy areas, but close enough to drive to busy if you want. This is why you hear the sound of the ocean in the evening. This location is kind of the last bit of true Hawaii. . We also walk Ma’alaea / Sugar Beach every other morning before we start our day. We haven’t tried Dina’s Sandwich shop, but next time we walk Sugar Beach, we will be sure to stop in. Thanks for the recommendation. The other days we walk around the Harbor, where the snorkel boats launch and Ma’alaea triangle has a few interesting stores and restaurants. We often sit on our Lanai and go to our little beach out front to watch the tide pools come alive and see the plethora of turtles. In high season to watch the Whales Breach from the Lanai is a huge plus. You won’t get a better view unless you’re swimming with them or maybe a boat.
We try to keep or “Hideaway” stocked with as many essentials as we can, however some guests don’t replace some items, but you have a good base to start out with.

“A Pleasant Place to Stay”
Reviewed 13 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

The condo is well situated on the island, being about 15 minutes from the airport and inbetween Lahiana and Kihea. The condo is very quiet, neat and clean. Items to care for the condo and yourself are provided. The view from the lanai is beautiful. You can leave the windows open at night and fall asleep to the sounds of the waves as they lap onto the beach. Sugar Beach is a 4 minute walk away from the condo and that beach is great for walking and sun bathing. Also, a 4 minute walk away from the condo in the other direction, is the harbor shopping area with a few nice tourist stores, a restaurant and the aquarium. The condo is nicely furnished and the bed was very comfortable.
Though four persons can stay at the condo, that would be a little crowded. The couch in the living room folds out to a bed, but that makes things "tight" for everyone.
The owner was very responsive and very helpful. He was very helpful in his suggestions of what to see and where to go while in Maui and even sent us numerous brochures to help us decide what to do while there.
The condo property has a very small sandy beach, however, in the morning and evenings a number of turtles come very close to the shore and are fun to watch.
I would highly recommend this property to stay at while in Maui.

Liked best: The location, the view from the lanai, and how clean and quiet it was.
