“Very nice cottage”
Reviewed 12 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

This is a lovely little cottage with everything you need. Only across the courtyard to the crown pub on the high street. We will defiantly book this cottage again easy to book and Joanne the owner was very friendly and helpful with the questions I had.

“Disappointing Weekend”
Reviewed 10 August 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We had booked The Stables for a long weekend as we had some business in Harrogate and also intended to do some walking. The property is part of a courtyard development but what the marketing doesn't tell you is that the courtyard is also the beer garden for the hotel and also the smoking area for the same. This means that it can be quite noisy at night and the smell of cigarette smoke is not too pleasant in the bedrooms if you have the window open. The ground floor of the property is very small (sitting room/kitchen/diner all in one) - very dark especially as one of the lightbulbs was not working. We went to use the cooker only to find the oven shelf very dirty and sticky - we ate out for the rest of the weekend (not something we had budgeted for). One of the heaters was not working and the room was quite cold when we arrived - we eventually managed to get one of the heaters working. Upstairs is more spacious but there is limited storage space. We also found that one of the bedroom doors wouldn't shut and the bathroom door would not shut. There was also mould around the bath/shower and the shower screen looked grimy. There was no washing machine - luckily the weather was good so we did not need to wash our walking kit. We were also surprised to find nothing available with which to wash dishes and no hand soaps either in the kitchen area or in the bathroom - something that tends to come as standard in all the other properties we have rented.

We have always holidayed in self catering cottages and have had some excellent properties that we have booked for a week for just a little more than we were charged for 4 days at The Stables. We loved Pateley Bridge but would not stay at The Stables again.

How easy was it to book the property? How helpful were the directions to the property?

Management Response

We are very sorry to hear that you found your stay not to your liking. We take all feedback seriously and constructively.
You have however raised a couple of points that seem rather confusing.
You state that the courtyard is part of the Hotel Beer Garden and Smoking area. This is completely misleading. The courtyard has 5 holiday cottages within the courtyard and we are furthest away from the Pub. We are not part of the Pub Beer Garden whatsoever. The Pub has a very small area outside, with 2 benches, some 15-20 meters away from our cottage.
I fully appreciate that you can probably hear the noise if any patrons of the Pub are outside, however it is a quaint, Dale’s village pub and most people enjoy the atmosphere.
I note your comments about the Light bulb and Heater. As your stay was back in June, it is difficult to understand why this was the case. Had you have contacted us when you discovered these problems we would have rectified them immediately. Our contact details are in the welcome book provided.
You are quite correct; the property does not have a washing machine and has never been marketed with one.
We have a double wardrobe in the main bedroom and a chest of drawers with 7 drawers in the 2nd bedroom that Sykes Cottages have advised is more than adequate; however we will review this in light of your comments.
Your comments about the internal doors we take on board. We have had to adjust some of the internal doors, as this was a listed building that was renovated, so some slight aligning has been necessary. We apologise if this caused any inconvenience.
We have used the same cleaner for some time now, who takes great pride in her work, in fact her cleaning business; however we will discuss your comments with her.
Once again we appreciate your feedback and will act on any issues we can. Simon and Joanne

“Wonderful base from which to explore the Dales”
Reviewed 8 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

The apartment is in an excellent situation - friendly pub next door, supermarket very close, great walks and places to explore nearby. It is clean, comfortable and very well presented. My only criticism is that , when compared to rentals from Air BnB, some of the essentials for stay were missing- dishwashing liquid, soaps.
