Review of Warwick Fiji
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Aug 2024via mobile
Do your research and pick the right room for your needs. There are adult wings/pool and general. In adult wing we were top floor ocean view which was lovely. The things you will need to deal with are showers that aren’t fully screened so towel changes are necessary daily. The breakfast buffet is varied daily and interesting. Lunch at the lagoon bar is good value compared to the rest of the resort. There is limited access to good priced dinners, however food at the Italian is great. They do need better Italian music tho, not the screaming 80s stuff (please relax us!).
It’s easy to start thinking like a local and have access to buses, hitching or local taxis. There’s definitely a two scale economy for tourists so take your time when deciding how to exit the resort and go to a town/village. My experience in the wing I am in is that they switch off the hot water between 11pm- 7am which is a bit annoying. There is an exec lounge operating for afternoon tea and early evening which is a nice value add, for a coffee, cake, pre dinner drink and snack. It’s a tight space so gets cramped in a crowd or you get to yourself depending on the day. The beach is nice, staff are friendly. I pray that all the team are well looked after for the future under current management as there are some local ‘rumbles’ about issues and staff turnover.

This hotel is misrepresented with a 5-star rating! I stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and, having travelled extensively, feel compelled to share just some of my negative experiences.

The bathroom was putrid, with a dirty sink, and the shower area had black mould and condensation formed on the shower ceiling dripping down onto me each time I took a shower.

Children run unsupervised along the accommodation corridors at all hours of the day and night with continuous slamming of doors. The door lock on my room was falling off its hinges. The floors of the hotel are so slippery with children running through areas with wet feet leaving puddles, I saw numerous people slip over.

As a solo traveller every time I went to a restaurant and asked for a table for 1 or tried to book a table for 1 (you have to prebook ALL your dinner restaurant sittings the day before) the staff rolled their eyes at me! It can take-up to 30 minutes to receive service at the upstairs bar, staff were more interested in chatting than serving, 9 times out of 10 I had to go up to the bar and ask to be served.

There were horse droppings on the beach the day I arrived and glass scattered on the shoreline. Delivery trucks arrive at 3 am and you are woken up by the sound of their reversing alarm.

The only child-free restaurant was closed due to the high seas, completely understandable. I tried to watch some of the Olympics (seeking at least 1 spot without unsupervised children) on the large screen in the bar area, only to be interrupted by staff members yelling and screaming at the back of the room which made it impossible to hear the commentary, etc.

On numerous occasions the food served was still frozen (bread rolls in the Italian Restaurant), pastries at the breakfast bar.

But the most disappointing thing of all was that whilst I raised some of the issues (mainly the room issues) with the front desk, my concerns were not addressed and I was continuously approached by staff members to "give tips in cash".

I am sorry but this experience was so bad and I feel the management of the hotel needs to be held accountable for why these issues are 1. not addressed 2. allowed to happen & 3. why safety is not your No.1 priority for your guests. I felt unsafe during my stay and in fact, one night when a guest left their TV on so loud until 3am that guests were banging on their door to turn it down........ do not even believe security were present to address the situation.

Room tip: Avoid as a solo traveller

We were worried when we read some reviews before leaving. But decided we would make the best of it..... we were wrong. Believe the 1 star reviews!!

First room (108) the water was leaking through the floorboards in multiple spots. It had clearly been patched up yet the staff claimed they didn't know anything about it. The room stank wet and mouldy also. We got moved to a Pool View room (127) it had no tv but didn't bother us and we were happy to stay in this room, they gave us a free upgrade. The safe didn't work in either of the rooms so they replaced them both times. We noticed they put people back in room 108 the next day so clearly didn't fix the leak! They did provide a fruit platter and letter of apology.
Within days the ceiling in the shower of new room started leaking as if the tap was on constantly. Every time someone had a shower it leaked all over the bathroom floor and it was not always a warm shower.
The staff were very friendly and honestly without them it would have been even worse. The location is also beautiful with good snorkelling. There are not enough kayaks or paddle boards and not enough paddles either.
The lounges around the pool were taken by 6am. The activities were all broken (pool table/darts/air hockey). Gym was great with lots of equipment and air conditioned.
The kids club and activities around the pool kept the kids entertained and they had a great time.
Buffet was overpriced and terrible, Wicked Walu was delicious, Teppanayki was delicious but the al la carte at Japanese was straight out of the freezer. Book your restaurants when you arrive as they book out quickly and they don't offer many sittings despite being lots of empty tables every night.
Drinks are over-priced so take your own beers and spirits.
Despite this the staff and location meant we had a nice family holiday and especially the kids loved it; and we were happy to overlook the other issues.
However, once we got home we realised they double charged our room almost $4000FJD. We contacted immediately and did not get a reply for a few days. They then blamed us for the mistake and said they would issue a refund. 7 days later it is still there and I contacted yesterday to ask for receipt. They sent a blurry unreadable receipt and said it was done on 31 July. A week after saying it was done. This is totally unacceptable and we are still waiting for OUR money to be returned. What was also strange at checkout they did not ask for pin code on card when doing the transaction and only provided the 2nd receipt. So we didn't know until we got home. The response from the Hotel has also been a disgrace. We won't be back.

Room tip: Keep track of your transactions as everything is on paper receipts so at checkout it is hard to know if they have added more charges

A lot of things went wrong... Main ones were that our first room didn't have enough beds (space for 3 for a party of 4??), and absolutely stank of mould (like it hit you in the face when the door opened...). Hotel was fully booked, so they could only move us the following day. No refund or credit for the difference between what we booked versus what we got that night was offered. Children were supposed to eat for free - but this deal (advertised on the hotel website) was not honoured. BUYER BEWARE!! I have lodged a complaint with the hotel (twice) but am now airing dirty laundry publicly because it's been 2-weeks with no response... Overall - not 5-stars and not as advertised. Recommend looking elsewhere for a trouble-free relaxing break.

We spend 6 nights here as a family of 2 adults and 2 kids (14yo and 12yo). It was a disappointing experience overall, with some good aspects. We booked two “ocean view” rooms (as our kids were classified as adults) and couldn’t be more unimpressed with the room allocation. Ground floor, no ocean view, un-renovated. Certainly looked nothing like the photos on the website.
Pool was very cold, only one small spa area which was packed with kids throughout the stay. Strong Easterly winds were relentless, making snorkelling at high tide the only viable outdoor activity.
Resort sports gear was a poor standard, or not available. No darts, flippers broken or unavailable, table tennis gear useless, air hockey tables broken, snorkels very limited, no basketball hoop, tennis court surface dangerous.
Local staff were nice, but “island time” is an excuse all the time (“I’ve got to check with my manager who’s in a meeting” is a standard line to move you along). Food very poor value, and you are a captive audience once you arrive. I got food poisoning from the under-cooked buffet fish the first night unfortunately.
Come to think of it there weren’t really many good aspects. We moved on to Plantation Island which was so much better! Don’t waste your time with the Warwick, it’s a tired old resort which is not re-investing profits into the business. All that profit is disappearing overseas unfortunately.

Bula Vinaka & a warm greeting from Warwick Fiji Resorts,

    Dear Fearless06767566535,

Thank you for your most honest feedback following your stay with us at Warwick Fiji.

As a team, we are taking steps to ensure that we improve our services in many key areas, just as you have listed on your review. We are disappointed to hear that you had issues at check-in, and also with the room you were allocated, after your long travel down from Nadi.

We concede that we do have quite a number of areas which require our urgent attention including basic maintenance, improvement on essentials, room amenities & overall, the general upkeep of the resort. This is all work in progress and your suggestions for improvements are valued!
However, during this busy period we tried our utmost best to keep operations as normal as possible with what was available then. Unfortunately, this experience & the delayed service delivery by our respective teams to address your issues marred your holiday with us.

However, we assure you that if we again have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Warwick Fiji, you will experience a far better level of service, one more befitting of our beautiful resort and its people.

    Best Regards,
    Warwick Famliy.

Family had a very enjoyable stay. Most of the facilities and activities are pretty well run.
Room was supposed to have two queen beds but at check in they said they only had a room with queen plus single but they would put a roller bed in. Had to chase them up about 5-6 times before we finally got the bed at like 9pm at night. This was the only bad part.
Room was quite clean, little small but you don't spend a lot of time there. Was nice to have a little balcony looking out to the pool. The grounds and the setting/location of the place was very picturesque.
Buffet was busy but food refilled and quite good variety including omelette station.
Recommend when you arrive you book restaurants for every night of your stay as they book out very fast.
Buffet good some nights but average other nights. Just don't expect too much. Kids eat free for buffet but have to eat from separate kids buffet - one night it was very basic.
Tried Sazanami for Teppanyaki - pricey but very nice. Also tried a la carte which was average.
Could snorkel off the beach provided you avoid all the seaweed in the middle and head more for the rock pier where they do fish feeding. Quite a few fish around there.
Activities on offer were good (egg throwing and other games, coconut husking, weaving etc) and night time shows entertaining esp the fire show !
Sports area has a few options - squash, tennis, table tennis, pool, air hockey. Just some of the equipment was basic. The gym was quite well equipped.
Our kids 8 and 10 found the kids club maybe a little simple and for younger kids but they found other kids to play with and joined in some of the adult family activities.
Make sure you are aware of the 2 hour trip from Nadi airport and that you stock up on water and snacks on the way. You only get one bottle of water per room per day.
