Hygiene is a real issue

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Apr 2024
I'm sorry but this is going to be a lengthy negative review .

Firstly the good - location ( and by location I mean the parcel of land its located) is excellent , water frontage , lovely views etc , the gardens are pristine and well maintained .

There is a huge pool albeit it is showing its age a bit with cracked tiles , missing flter covers etc but its big and the water seemedclean and well filtered.

The staff for the most part are excellent , very friendly always a smile and a Bula no matter what they're doing , particular nod to the activities staff who go above and beyond to give the guests a truly Fijian experience .

However the poor staff in the Buffet restaurant and pool bars seemed over worked and very short staffed , service is abysmally slow , it shouldnt take 30 minutes to get a drink , aand it did on several occassions at both the buffet and pool bars . Clearing of tables etc took forever if done at all in the buffet , the poor staff were overwhelmed.

the included cruises and snorkelling were all fairly basic but good fun and well worth doing , again the activities staff made the experience , but beware Fijian time operattes here so an 8.00 booking may not leave till 8.30 or so but its all good !

We ate at Talei restaurant and that was well worth it , much more relaxed cleaner , quicker and personal with a great duo singing tunes in the corner , well worth it if its included in your package.

We also went on the Sigatoka shopping tour and again that was worth it just to seesome countryside and the town of Sigatoka , the market holders were a bit pushy but otherwise safe , Jacks and Tapoo were the two main stores for tourists.

Unfortunately didnt get to play golf as grounds were tooo wet but I walked it and if you lower your expectations its a fun , short course

Rooms are OK , our room in Suva wing was showing its age but it was fine , ocean view , good size , good water pressure and temperature etc air con , a lot of condensation but with the humidity thats understandable.

Now the bad ( sorry !)

the buffet food is poor - very poor in some cases , meat dishes are virtually inedible , tough and chewy.

The food sits in the bain marees for hours sometimes without being refreshed or stirred , most food is barely luke warm .

flies and other insects are everywhere , particulalrly the fruits and salads were covered in flies , thankfully but a bit too late they covered the fruit with glad wrap on our last day .

Mangy dogs and cats wander through the restaurant , no one seems to try and remove them

As mentioned the tables arent cleared in any hurry consequently the food scraps are also an attraction for flies

The soft drinks are heavily watered down so much so they are flat with no fizz .

Tongs dont seem to be cleaned throughout meal time and unfortunately some guests choose not to use tongs and pick food out with their fingers , this needs to be policed or the dangers of using your fingers made more prominent through notices , the compendium or TV Channel 1..

Now the big one ! I witnessed staff collect used glasses besides the pool , take them back to the bar and rinse them very quickly under the tap and reused them , no detergent no sterilisation just a cursory 5 second rinse and wipe with a towel ! I recommend you get your glass in the morning when it has been sterilised and keep it all day.

Smoking and vaping is not policed . there were people vaping in the restaurant and in the pavillion watching the kids shows and staff did nothing , likewise people were smoking at the pool and no one said boo.

Hygeine is very poor , I got very sick for 2 days and I know of at least 6 others in our week alone that were ill , and judging by face book comments its a common occurence , the resort needs to clean up its act particularly around food and drink.

Finally I witnessed a staff member kick a plastic water bottle into the ocean ,in thiss day and age thats just not good enough.

The resort has potential , we had a good relaxing time but the selling point of all inclusive meals needs fixing in a hurry , it simply isnt up to standard at present too many people are falling ill .

The resort is a long way away - 2 hours from Nadi , there are no restaurants or shops withing walking distance so you are limited

Again we had a good time and you will too but be aware and take precautions around food and hygeine

The Naviti Resort

Korolevu

We stayed here just recently for 7 nights on the all inclusive package. The grounds were pristine & all staff are lovely. We were upgraded form garden view to ocean view room, all this meant was going up 1 level & a dismal view of the ocean due to the palms around the pool. The room was large but the aircon fan would only work on full speed & was very noisy. The best food was breafast with the other meals only average. Any meat from the bainmarie was usually tough & tasteless, the salad & fresh fruit was excellent. In the package we went to the upmarket Talei restaurant, what a let down this was. Starting with entree I had chicken with green papaya salad, the chicken was like rubber. My wife had shrimp cocktail for entree, I`m sure they used Krill instead of shrimp as they weren`t easily seen. Main course for me was a sirloin steak, it was about 10mm thick & very tough, If I had 2, I could have made a good pair of roman sandals. My wifes main was meant to coconut crusted mahi mahi, what came out had no coconut crust & was dry & tough. This was sent back & eventually the correct fish was delivered. Maybe a change in the catering manager would greatly improve the food standard. A thanks to the team doing the snorkelling trip, It was fantastic.

I have visited the Naviti resort 9 times prior to this. Always had a great experience and that is why I kept returning. This time was completely different. The atmosphere has changed completely. The staff are nervous about being watched by their supervisors.
This was confirmed by a few of the staff that I have come to know over the years. A large number of long term staff have left after the new management took over.

The quality of food has gone down since my last visit in October 2022. The buffet offer a variety but the standard of food has dropped. Some of it is inedible. The quality of food at the Talei has gone down as well. The only food outlet that was the same was the bamboo restaurant but very limited options on all inclusive.

Witnessed the bar manager berate a server in front of customers. In Fijian of course but you could tell he was not complimenting her. This was because I decided to grab a few drinks at the bar on my way back to my table from the washrooms. The waitress did say to me if I could not do that anymore as they will get into trouble for not doing their job properly. 1 minute later the manager was into her. I asked another waiter if she was in trouble for not getting drinks and they just nodded.

I just want to say the staff are still amazing and do their best to make your stay as nice as possible. It’s sad that they are constantly being watched by a manager.

A lot of cost cutting. Food quality and staff numbers.

Unfortunately my love affair with this place has now ended.

We were with a group of 7 returnees and everyone noticed the difference.

We are a family of 4 and have stayed at the naviti 5 times. Every trip has been very enjoyable and the staff at Naviti resort are what make it so special. Our last trip was in Dec 2023 and was great to see the upgrades that were happening or had happened since our last trip. Some of the staff that made our trip amazing included Sam in the Nukunuku restaurant, Mary from the activities desk, as well as Ana, Minnie, Tavenisa.

We were disappointed with the beach , which I hesitate to name a beach ! More like a very shallow inlet with no beach at all when the tide came in , and only mucky muddy sand and no water during low tide . Swimming in the ocean was not possible at all, so the pool was the only option.
The pool though, was actually quite nice, a good size and lots of loungers with a swim up bar, and shallow walk in for youngsters.
Volleyball, water exercises and activities were available and had many participants.
We purchased the all inclusive package but found it very limited ! There were only a very few choices we could order from on the two a la carte menus! And the menus there never varied so after a couple of days you ate the same thing .. that is if you liked your meal ! Unfortunately we definitely did not enjoy any!
Having been to a few all inclusive resorts and for the most part used to delicious, gourmet quality meals , we found the food super over cooked and often unpalatable .
This led us to trying dinners at the buffet . We had enjoyed breakfast and a couple of lunches at the buffet as it had lots of things to choose and also a grill menu for pizza, burgers and sandwiches . Still every buffet dish with meat was overcooked to an inedible state , but if you choose carefully you can find some tasty curries and vegetable dishes .
We had a nicely appointed room ,a great shower and a comfy bed with a beautiful garden and mountain view . The only thing needed was a couple of comfortable chairs on the balcony as the heavy wooden ones there were very uncomfortable. What a beautiful view and so many beautiful birds !
The best thing here is the very friendly, helpful, and caring staff members, who went out of their way to address any concerns and were always happy and smiling!
