My husband and I did a gorgeous three nights four days kayak trip in Abel Tasman. Absolutely recommend to anyone lucky enough to go to the area. We are experienced backpackers but not kayakers and still had a load of fun by ourselves. One quick tip: we prepared as we would for a backpacking trip (ie very light packs, dehydrated food, etc). But kayaks really do hold a lot. Bring wine! 😜 you can afford to do so and its worth it. Finding a campsite in the high season can be tricky so try to arrive early to campsites if you can. Enjoy!

We have a launch moored at Motueka and spend a lot of the summer cruising the waters around Abel Tasman. Glorious sandy beaches and the walking tracks are maintained to a very high standard giving spectacular views along the way.

We walked south - the paths are well marked and hug the coast, crossing beaches at times - watch for tide times although the are usually alternatives. Wonderful trees and shrubs give lots of shade. There are a few camping grounds and the odd toilet facility along the route. If you like walking this is a stunning place.

I was here in 2014 (TripAdv doesn't go back that far), as it was a optional stop on the Kiwi Experience Tour. SO happy that I chose to stay a bit longer and booked a walk in the park. You have to book a water taxi to the entrance of the park and its walking tracks, that's the only way to get there. I booked the Seals and Sands wlak, estimated 4 hour walk. They pick you up around that time at the beach, as you end up somewhere else. Was kinda nervous for a bit since I walked all by myself and just had to trust for the boat to come but it did ;-) Beautiful, beautiful views everywhere on the track. You have so many side tracks from the original which all lead to beautiful viewing points to take the best pictures. Good walking shoes advices, but not too difficult or very steep. Make sure to bring enough water and food as there is off course nothing available anywhere since you're surrounded by stunning nature. Anyway, a must do whenever you're around.

Gorgeous winter day! Water taxi from Khaiteriteri to apple Tree Bay. Walk to anchorage bay and water taxi back to Khaiteriteri. A few hours of paradise. Just the best.
