Description: At Artichoke, food is a way of life. The cooking combines the flavour and diversity of Italian cooking with traditional South African influences to create a menu that is inviting and decadently different. Produced are sourced locally and seasonally where possible and to this end, Artichoke is closely entwined with the community, ensuring that guests experience the full freshness and flavour of the Eastern Free State. Our food, as befits a country restaurant, is relatively uncomplicated, but always very tasty and prepared with care and attention. A nicely compiled wine list offers, amongst others, two lovely South African MCCs. Along with local wine names; Boschendal, Franschhoek Cellar, Kanonkop and Graham Beck.

After arriving for a quick drink at 1pm after a long ride on the bikes. We were still there at :7. There was live music and we grooved along . Then deciding to have supper there we met Cheffy who recommended some Thing I cant pronounce. It was awesome. We met the owner Bruce a real character. And since we are staying for 3 days we will be back tomorrow.

Dinner with music. A great atmosphere good value for money. The host is a great character very friendly. Our dinner took a long time. Steak had to be sent back twice and still was not acceptable? Not a good experience.

Got to Clarens late after a day in Lesotho so all the restaurants were full, so we came here as a last resort, not because it looked bad but because it is as you turn in so it is a bit by itself where as all the other restaurants are in the little town. The service was great and the food was really good, nice and fresh. Also very responsibly priced. Will definitely eat here again!

Dear Tripadvisor

The Artichoke restaurant is under new management and does not exist as 'The Artichoke restaurant' anymore.

It is now called the 'Original Street Caffe Restaurant.'

Same location in Clarens.

Kind regards.

Nothing special - just had a quick beer and like most of the places in Clarens - been to one been to all ! The Eisbein look delicious and humunges - Owner was a bit miffed and started shooing us out an hour before the Rugby started as tables were reserved - rather rude as we said we would be out before the game started !
