Eat a variety of up market breakfasts here at the Courtyard Bakery and Cafe. You can order in the restaurant and from the bakery.

As we were leaving Clarens on the Sunday at about 13hoo, we had a craving for cake. The bakery had no cakes left, but we saw that the restaurant had quite a few left. The restaurant of this bakery is on the right side of it and it had a clear sign outside that said closes at 11hoo, but the door was slightly open. We didn’t want to be rude, so we asked the lady from the bakery on the left, if we perhaps may buy cake from the restaurant. She said no problem, just go in and ask them yourselves. We then walked in , excused ourselves for walking into a closed restaurant , explained what the bakery lady said and asked the lady behind the counter if we may buy cakes. We were received in the coldest way ever. I asked again if it is ok. She didn’t even bother to answer, took the cakes and progressed in slow mow to go cut the portions. Then a lady, I assume the owner arrived behind the counter and just gave us a glare of note. When I explained to her the situation and asked if the cake was a problem, she started telling at us that the restaurant was actually closed, but in an extremely rude manner. Her husband joined and started yelling at us in a very loud tone. We were in total shock and took a video of him, which I can provide while he was a throwing the tantrum of his life and getting very aggressive. Friends of ours visited this restaurant 2 weeks prior to our visit and they were also not impressed at all. They heard this owner yelling at his staff from the kitchen. Clearly they are not interested in new customers and it seems like they earn enough on a Friday and Saturday, to treat the public like this.
There are so many quaint reputable restaurants in Clarens ,that I wouldn’t even be bothered to visit this one.

We had lunch at The Courtyard during a recent visit to Clarens. Even though it was a Saturday and the town was incredibly busy, we managed to get a table inside the bright and light restaurant.

Service was super prompt and friendly and the food was excellent. They also have a bakery section where you can buy delicious bread, scones, croissants and cookies to take home.

Well worth it!

Breakfasts are excellent. Coffee and hot chocolates were served promptly. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, French toast (with extra soft poached eggs, bacon and cheese) was delicious and the bacon was tasty. Definitely a very good breakfast venue which we will most certainly visit again.

We bought a farm loaf to enjoy at our holiday abode with local jam – “nastergal konfyt”. The crust was crispy and the inside yeasty and soft.
Ideal for lovers of pastry and bread.
