I originally chose the Hotel Nautilos Capurgana because it was right on the beach, and from the photos it looked like it had a nice pool and had some decent rooms.
The second night there were flying cockroaches in my room. One of them jumped on my bed. I immediately went to the front desk, and they did change my room right away, but the fact that I even had to contend with that made me incredibly uncomfortable about sleeping there.
The other thing I noticed was that there was a constant smell of urine in the room, as well as stained bed sheets and pillows.
One day, I got a glass of wine from the bar, and there was a spider in it. The bartender removed the spider from my glass and gave it back to me. At that point, I had to tell him that I wanted a different glass of wine because I wouldn't drink the one that already had an insect in it.
This place was more expensive than some of the other hotels/hostels I had seen in town which I was happy to pay for, so long as I also got better quality than other places.
I read another review that said this hotel has potential, and it does, but as of the time I stayed, I wasn't satisfied at all, and I wouldn't be staying again.
In terms of positives, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful which I appreciated. They also emailed me as soon as I booked to make sure I had all the information I needed to get to Capurgana. In addition, they sent someone to pick me up and my luggage at the pier.
