Wouldn't stay here again

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Mar 2019
I originally chose the Hotel Nautilos Capurgana because it was right on the beach, and from the photos it looked like it had a nice pool and had some decent rooms.

The second night there were flying cockroaches in my room. One of them jumped on my bed. I immediately went to the front desk, and they did change my room right away, but the fact that I even had to contend with that made me incredibly uncomfortable about sleeping there.

The other thing I noticed was that there was a constant smell of urine in the room, as well as stained bed sheets and pillows.

One day, I got a glass of wine from the bar, and there was a spider in it. The bartender removed the spider from my glass and gave it back to me. At that point, I had to tell him that I wanted a different glass of wine because I wouldn't drink the one that already had an insect in it.

This place was more expensive than some of the other hotels/hostels I had seen in town which I was happy to pay for, so long as I also got better quality than other places.

I read another review that said this hotel has potential, and it does, but as of the time I stayed, I wasn't satisfied at all, and I wouldn't be staying again.

In terms of positives, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful which I appreciated. They also emailed me as soon as I booked to make sure I had all the information I needed to get to Capurgana. In addition, they sent someone to pick me up and my luggage at the pier.

This hotel has the potential to be wonderful. However it misses out on all counts except the mostly helpful and friendly young staff. The site is well placed on the beach. That is all. Our room had a washbasin that needed only to be gently touched to start swaying. We expected no hot water but not no water at all and despite many requests for water in the shower and taps the staff were unable to oblige. The fact that they had no contingency plan confirms the idea that investment was lacking. The food was a very low quality. It appears to be an entertainment hotel with loud music into the early hours. It felt like a run down Butlins holiday camp. If you want somewhere clean and pleasant to stay take a short boat ride round the corner to Sapzurro where guest houses and small restaurants looked much more appealing. If you want somewhere tasty to eat in Capurgana go to Josefinas on the beach. Lovely seafood. Good luck if you try the Nautilos....

The Hotel Group Nautilos, is ratified in the implementation of the policies of excellence and effectiveness in the provision of its services; always trying to comply fully with what was agreed with its users when accessing any of the different packages offered. It should be noted that the facilities of all commercial establishments that make up the Hotel Group as such, maintain a line of decorum and impeccable maintenance, thus noting the commitment of the Administration.
All the above as a complement to a paradisiacal environment suitable for resting and enjoying nature face to face.

In relation to the water service, it is worth noting that the Nautilos Capurganá hotel administration area has a specific schedule to carry out the proper maintenance of the water plants, which was carried out from February 23 to 28 of this year; Fortunately, it was not possible to foresee that the administration of the municipality of Acandí ordered the suspension of said service for reasons beyond our control and justifiable to them.

Beforehand we offer our apologies for the inconvenience caused during the stay at our hotel and we appreciate the time you had to let us know your choice; this makes us take improvement actions in our hotel.

This is not a luxury resort but its location directly on the beach cannot be beat. The rooms and bathrooms are pretty basic. Only liquid soap provided in bathrooms, no shampoo. Although we were only two people, we had a room with a double and 2 single beds which made the room a bit cramped. We were on the all-inclusive package and meals were decent but we would have preferred to dine outside the hotel. We went one night to nearby Josefina’s restaurant which offered delicious seafood and which we would have preferred to the buffet dinners. The first night we were there (a Monday), the nightclub on the beach was pumping loud music with heavy base until midnight. It was impossible to sleep. Thankfully, it seemed not to have opened for the rest of our stay. Our package included 2 outings which were well organised. On our day of departure, our flight was at 13:00. Checkout is at noon but we were asked to vacate the room at 10:30 and wait for the transfer to the airport at 11:30. We then had to wait another hour at the tiny airport which was a bit of a waste of time. Overall, a good place to stay due to its location but for the price, I think they should improve the rooms.

Good morning Mrs. Valery, for us it is nice to have your opinion, about the experience you had during your stay at our hotel Nautilos in Capurganá.

One of the ways in which El Grupo Hotelero Nautilos contributes to the economic development of the Capurganá community, is not including some products to the tourist program, such as those boutique products, snack and also the transfers between the airport and hotel so that these services are to the community.
We are reviewing our rooms in order to improve the spaces of each of them, especially when you have reservations of couples where only one bed is used.
Unfortunately, we do not have control of the decisions made by the Acandí Mayor's Office, since they gave permission to the club to provide services until 12:00 midnight, when the administration listens loudly to the music. police so that they are the ones who control the volume.

Regarding the food offered at the hotel being a buffet, we have a food and drinks coordinator where he is responsible for programming the menu, which is varied and in different environments, if the customers want the food to be a la carte This service is also available at an additional cost.

Regarding the check-out performed and the delay of the departure of the flight, we indicate that the time established for the delivery of the room is at 10:30 am, we apologize for the delay presented on the flight, as a measure in these cases has established that guests are informed of such news and that the wait is made at the hotel facilities to be more pleasant for customers, at the moment our employees are in retraining and additional we will take the necessary corrections so that We repeat these situations that, due to a human error, jeopardize our promise, "In the Nautilos Hotel Group, we are fascinated that our travelers enjoy a memorable experience through each destination or place visited. We know that travel is lived three times: when we dream it, when we live it and when we remember it, that's why we want to be part of those stories and those lived moments that will last forever. "

      Fondly,

This was my fourth visit to the hotel and Capurganá and my first under Nautilos ownership. On my previous visits (the first in 2003) the hotel was named Almar under different ownership. I found it to be pretty much the same if perhaps a little less classy. For example Almar offered wine with the buffet dinners and there was not the issue with load music that other reviewers have complained about. On that last note just hang on to the earplugs supplied by the aircraft you fly in on. The food was quite adequate if not special though I really liked the fresh ocean fish including Barracuda. The rooms and beds are comfortable and the bathroom clean with everything in good working order. The AC worked well and was quiet.

The village has changed quite a bit since my last visit in 2009. At that time there were two motorcycles and now there are scads and a big tractor and other machines. There is an impressive new school paid for by a foreign country but our horsecart driver didn't know which.

This time we didn't go on any tours or boat trips having done them all before. Instead we made the hour long walk back to the waterfall ourselves on a day when the other visitor were on a tour and had the pool and falls to ourselves. We also hiked a trail that heads more or less north along the coast beginning at the end of the beach in front of the hotel. It's easy to find but not mentioned by any staff. We didn't see any this time but on the last visit I found yellow and black poison arrow frogs in shaded and vegetated areas along that trail.

There is pleasurable snorkeling a short distance from the beach with a nice variety of colorful fish. On past visits I was warned to wear water shoes when swimming because of the prevalence of the black urchins but this time I didn't see any at all. You can swim all the way out to the island in about half an hour using swim fins.

As Almar there were organized activities every evening like karaoke etc. but no longer which was fine as I didn't care for them. The one exception that I did miss were the toad races on the beach. Pretty stressful for the toads though.

All in all it was a pleasant visit once again and no complaints about the new management which was friendly and helpful. My only complaint was the wifi which cost five thousand pesos daily did not reach the room.

Room tip: As others have stated get a room away from the pool and reception area to limit noise from load music.

We were moving to Nautilus to be near beach. First impresion was good and we even used bar inclusive option (70000). It quickly became obvious that place is just nice cover...

Bar: serving beer and coctails in dirty plastic glasses. Maybe 1.5 dcl, so you could imagine frequency of refilling.

Food: extremely poor for such price

Rooms: first night we had air con from previous millennium but that was ok due it was so noisy that music from disco was not so annoyingly.

Second day we insisted to change room and we got one with new air con.

MAIN ISSUE: there is disco on the beach almost on front of hotel. To be precise: disco and three beach caffes. Each have at least 300 W powerful loudspeakers and you guess about music...

Music (bass) is so loud that even if you use your fingers to cover ears, dooom, dooom is still there.

First night we were lucky: it was started to rain at 3 in morning. Second was worse: it stopped only after electricity was gone...

After second day we had enough and move to Miramar.

As conclusion: this hotel has no value till they not solve problem with annoying loud music at the night

This is a simple place, let's be clear. This is a small village that most North Americans haven't even heard of, so if you're reading this review, you're onto something! Capurgana is wonderful, and this hotel is top notch for this tiny town. Rooms are basic and clean. The food is very good -- again, this is not big city five star fare, this is hotel-on-the-beach-in-a-tiny-village excellence. The pool is lovely -- very clean. Ditto the ocean -- it's steps away from the hotel, and the sand and the water are lovely. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed a couple of tours arranged through the hotel which I also highly recommend. (esp. the waterfall hike and the boat ride to Sapzurro.) There's no wifi available! What a treat...
