Perfectly fine for families, nice and relaxed atmosphere, has a nice pool and friendly staff. The hotel's resources seem limited though, the breakfast was very poor, with no options available and limited flexibility from the breakfast staff. What bothered us was the poor security of the rooms, keys are left out for anyone to grab, and the hotel is located on a plaza surrounded by bars which blare out music at top volume all day and night. In the end we ended our stay early and swapped for the only hotel which is located on the beach (nautilus) just to get the sea breeze as the temperature of capurganá was unbearable for us at this hotel.

We started our one month trip in Colombia in Capurgana. In order to avoid flying into Bogota, we went to capurgana via panama (a short flight from panama city to the coast, followed by 'customs' and a 30 min boat ride). Because it was over xmas season, and fearing we wouldn't find a place to stay, we pre-booked 6 nights at tacarcuna through booking.com. I believe we paid WAY more that we would have if we'd 'just showed up' as we usually do. It was over $135. cdn. per night (breakfast incl) - because booking.com is taking advantage of places that can't take their own online bookings, due to language/technology barriers. The cabanas are perfectly comfortable and roomy, and the staff are really lovely. But not good value, for Colombia (again, booking.com's inflated prices). If you have to pass through Capurgana, like we did, and like many travellers who do so via sailing trips, I would highly recommend Tacarcuna (and capurgana, in general) for a couple of nights at most. It's not 'on the beach' (which isn't a great beach, to be honest) but it was quiet (away from the insanely loud music and chaos of the village). The staff arranged a worthwhile day-boat trip to nearby beaches, and also booked flight to Medellin for us (a couple of weeks in advance - we could not do it online from canada), and kindly delivered our bags to the airport, which is about 2 blocks away. (Note: Other travellers we met later in our trip didn't know that you could fly from capurgana to Medellin - they took the interminable boat ride to Turbo, followed by a hellishly long road trip, and it cost more than our flight).
