On the plus side: amazing location and style; pool was fabulous and the cycling was excellent with a great guide (gaetan) who was outstanding. On the downside - expected more from the room for a 5* hotel, breakfast choice was really disappointing with cold eggs and sausages. Although service was friendly they were slow and we got hung up on trying to book tennis (we gave up!) For the cost and having experienced many other 5* I'd say it was more 4* than 5 but the location, scenery, cycling and pool were superb. As an aside the Tv's are horrendous to control!

Our family visited in a large group of 22 people to celebrate a multitude of birthdays this June as part of a multi-stop biking trips through the rolling hills of Provence. As our first stop off the train in Avignon, the La Coquillade hotel proved to be a majestic escape from the spring heat. The dual swimming pools were a great place to relax after long bike rides around the area, and the bar staff was up to the challenge of starting to our large group whether by the pool or up in garden escape off the main lobby. We were in a suite that was on the second level of one of the outlying buildings which could not have been a better place to crash after a long day. The second story with the bedroom had steeple like windows overlooking different areas of the hotel grounds.

The restaurants were all rather amazing, whether the bistro for breakfast or dinner, the amazing salad and antipasta bar and pizzas at lunch near the pool, or the great fine dining in the main building. Did I mention they produce great wine on site as well?

Would highly recommend a visit to La Coquillade

Love the location, the spa, the friendlyness of the staff but misses the 5* perfect rating for a few details in my opinion : Bottle of water not renewed in room every day, food at the bistrot and the pool (Italian) ok but nothing exceptional, room cleaning done unequally (1 day minimalist the next very nicely with clothes folded and everythin etc.). Might have become a bit too big in my opinion. I was more into the 'boutique' side of the old La Coquillade but the new spa is just exceptional and the staff is lovely!
Would definitely return

This hotel would have scored higher if the location was better, the Luberon and Côte du Rhone area offer way nicer spots further west. Rooms were excellent, service at reception too, restaurant Le Bistrot was average and the BMC bike rental was expensive and poor. If you intend to hire a bike in the area, use one of the local professionals, half the price and twice the service. The pool are is great, the "village design" as well, very calm and quiet. At an average 450€ a night there are better offers in the region offering super service for half the price. It does not live up to a 5 star when compared to a lot of other hotels and gites visited in the region. Language is an issue, and at a 5 star resort one can expect personnel to handle more than native french.

After staying at Crillon de Brave perhaps I am applied! We booked a junior suite and it had little privacy with so many people walking by. It rained the day before so there was a ton of ants near the bed. Their fix was poison which I didn't appreciate so close to where I sleep. No offer to move rooms until I said something and then it didn't feel sincere. So replenishment of water in the room and they make it seem like breakfast is part but it is not. Breakfast service was very friendly but not at most other meals. Overall beautiful property but at a very large scale, not quaint and less welcoming to English speaking visitors.
