We had a great time staying at De Preaux Lodge. Joy and Ian were great hosts and very friendly people. Joy is a fantastic cook as well.

The view from the bedroom is fantastic and we woke to an amazing view. Their lovely lodge is modern, very clean and warm. It was also spacious and my daughter loved it. It's prefect that we were taken around the farm for a brief tour too.

This place is extremely near to Hobbiton too and we absolutely love it and enjoyed our time there. We highly recommend it!

I do not even know where to start with this review; for every aspect of our stay on the lodge has been perfect.
We arrived at de Preaux Lodge after a 11hrs flight from Singapore and another 3hrs drive from Auckland International and the sight of the lodge eases any tiredness our group had.
Joy welcomed us at the door and showed us to our rooms, each room was a beauty and with full length sliding doors that pans out to a fantastic view of the farm.

We then had a nice farm walk conducted by Ian who proudly showed us his honey harvest, hens, herds and his nice vegetables and fruits garden.
Breakfasts and dinners were nicely prepared by Joy using the produce from the farm and second helping is almost a definite.

Without a doubt de Preaux Lodge is a farmstay of choice and give its close proximity to Hobbiton, Wairere Falls and Waitomo Glowworm Caves, one really should not pass up the chance to spend a couple of nights here.

Room Tip: For couples, you may want to book the luxury suite that comes with an ensuite and living space.

As part of a tour of New Zealand we stayed here for one night and it was fantastic. The location is a modern farm house just outside Matamata. The gardens are great and the tour of the farm areas was fascinating and informative. The house itself is superb, spacious and homely. Our bedroom was lovely(photo included) with a separate exclusive bathroom- both were huge. The evening meal we had was great, everything we ate came from the farm itself, and we had the bonus of the company of one of Ian and Joy's grandson Juda, who kept us entertained throughout the meal and at breakfast. The atmosphere is relaxed. We would recommend this to anyone

We stayed here for a night before heading out to Hobbiton the next day and how we regret not staying for a longer time! A beautiful house in a farm with a cat and a dog inside and delicious food served by the very friendly host Joy, what more can you ask for? We stayed at the luxury suite and it is just wonderful! It's like you're on your own home with all the amenities inside - they even have a decent amount of movie collection you can watch while relaxing in the very spacious living area within your own suite! Also imagine waking up with the view of the rolling hills right outside your doorstep and the list just goes on and on.. I just have nice things to say about this place and we'll definitely come back to stay when we return to NZ.

So glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we would love to welcome you back sometime. Yes you do need longer than one night to take in the general feeling of relaxing and then exploring some of the highlights of this area. Thank you for the lovely review.

Hi Joy ! I hope you will have time to read my review.

Thank you so much to allocate us the luxury room which made my honeymoon even better! These 3 nights away from home were those few which i have managed to sleep soundly and comfortably.

Edmund visits us every night as we stayed up till late and Billy is always busy around the farm with Ian.

Lilly is adorable and my wife, Hazel, wanted to kidnap her back to our country but decided not to in the end =x

We will be back again this year end hopefully (fingers crossed) to catch up with Joy and also to visit the Waitomo Caves this time round before we head down south :)
