Entering the Lucarne suite is indeed an experience and after you have negotiated the 500 plus year old steps, imaging as you do the many who have done so before you, you enter a very thoroughly appointed, equipped and comfortable two level suite. The owners Byron and Kelly are extremely hospitable hosts, offering a tour of the Gite and advice on the region. They are, indeed, the essence of what make a stay here so fantastic. A little secret awaits you, in the form of a small balcony in a turret accessible by a short ship ladder, but offering a lovely reward in the form of a panoramic view over this delightful and quaint village. We are a family of three, including a seven year old who fell in love with the Gite and the location. Because of the time of year, we didn't take a drink or eat on the upper balcony but the guest books in the room contain comments from people over the last few years since the owners have renovated and reveal that many have absolutely enjoyed this as an experience. We stayed three nights, but needed to travel to Paris for another matter on one whole day and have left La Charite sur Loire regretful that we did not book for longer. All in all, this is a well equipped suite perfectly located both in the town and within the region, and a stay will definitely not disappoint. The village is known as a village of books - apparently many Parisian book sellers moved there in the 1990s - and a fascinating activity is strolling the streets and lane ways reading the inscriptions from famous literary works (mostly in French, of course, but fun for us nevertheless). Be aware, though, that many business are closed on Sundays and Mondays so if booking just for a couple of nights, take this into account. However, there are local markets to explore on sundays although we did not get a chance to do so This suite is well suited for families, as it has oodles of space inside to spread out and read, play games, escape in your own thoughts, prepare meals, etc etc. And hosts Kelly and Byron live close by and offer a standing invitation to contact them for help, guidance, assistance etc. all in all, this is a delightful property and I have no hesitation in recommending it very highly.
