This resort has clearly faced some challenges and is in the process of improvement. I understand that the past few years have been tough for the industry, but the gap between what's advertised on their website and the reality is disappointing.
The landscaping is beautiful in the centre of the resort, but the overall condition of the resort is run-down. While they are renovating some rooms, it doesn't justify the high costs. I've stayed in much nicer hostels in Asia for a fraction of the price.
The staff is friendly and doing their best under the circumstances. The restaurant is decent, but the staff lacks proper equipment and training. Most of the cocktails we ordered were undrinkable, and some of the food seemed reheated. However, the staff were open to feedback.
The amenities are lacking. The pool looks nice, but everything else seems non-functional. The water toys are in poor condition, and some are broken. There are puddles everywhere, and we got bitten by insects a lot. More than anywhere else on our journey.
The monument on the property is in disrepair, and there are no signs explaining its significance.
The initial room we received was highly disappointing. The deck was rotten, and it was located next to a junked-out boat and car. The shower facility was minimal, with just a showerhead and a flimsy half-attached curtain offering no privacy. It was very small and cramped, with some windows that couldn't close. It didn't match the pictures on the website.
When we asked for a new room, we were offered an upgrade for the remaining 2/3 nights, which was understandable. However, the upgraded room was more like a two-star hotel.
Everything at the resort is significantly more expensive. Basic items like water and canned drinks cost much more than at local shops (5x more). I'm also unsure about the resort's claim to be eco-friendly, as there was no recycling, and it seemed to run on diesel-generated power.
Overall, it seems like management needs to address these issues. Calling this a luxury resort is misleading. While I wish them the best, it simply wasn't worth the cost. Perhaps with lower expectations, lower prices, and a more accurate website representation, our stay would have been more satisfactory.
