We stayed in the studio apartment for two nights and enjoyed the tranquility and vista. The room was very well appointed and we were supplied with a continental breakfast each morning. The beach is at the bottom of the garden and provides lots of opportunities for walks and exploration. Our hosts were lovely and unobtrusive. We enjoyed watching Pukeko parents feeding their two chicks in the paddock at the front of the property.

Thank you for your review! The baby pukekos (a New Zealand native bird) are indeed fun to watch – they've now reached a very comical “teenage” stage where their legs look far too big for their little bodies.

We spent a wonderful night here in peace with stunning surroundings. Spotlessly clean with immaculate presentation the villa was well set up with great views (we had a garden villa) and a short amble to the beach. The villas are well designed and garden landscaping gorgeous. The deck had great seating (deck chairs as well as loungers) for enjoying the views. Staff were professional and friendly without being intrusive. Although there was a full kitchen set up we opted for an early evening meal at the Mussel Inn, a short drive away. The breakfast basket featured fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, eggs, bread and bacon. Fresh OJ and tea / coffee were complimented by
homemade Anzac cookies.

Fantastic Hosts and location. The most comfortable bed we have slept in and a beautiful view to wake up to. Don't pass up the opportunity to come stay in this slice of heaven, enjoy the wonderful breakfast, and soak in the atmosphere of this wonderful spot. The room was warm and toasty and just the spot to enjoy watching a stormy July afternoon. All the little touches like freshly ground coffee and homemade biscuits, preserves and fruit really made this a special retreat. Will definitely be back on our next NZ trip but will be booking for longer!

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and go for the beach front

I unreservedly recommend this place to all couples looking for a romantic and peaceful get away. We wish we could have stayed for a lot longer. It was private, luxurious and everything was perfect. We will be back.

As soon as you turn into the driveway of “Adrift in Golden Bay” you get the feeling that this is something special: perfectly manicured lawns, immaculate tree-based windbreaks and then the view of the ocean. Gordon took our luggage to our beachfront cottage where we spent several minutes saying “wow” to each other as we looked at the sea, the beach and the distant hills. The B&B is perfectly situated for exploring the area with Collingwood and the Farewell Spit Eco Tour, Takaka and its colourful Saturday market, and the fascinating Te Waikoropupu Springs. Or just walk across the lawn, down a couple of steps and you can walk for hours along the beach – a great way to relax.
The spacious cottage, the luxurious bathroom, the daily breakfast basket and all the little extras made our stay really special. And as if that wasn’t enough, we saw a spectacular shooting star while stargazing on our patio!
Many thanks to Paul at “New Zealand in Depth” for advising us to enjoy the pleasures of Adrift in Golden Bay. Thoroughly recommendable.
