The Rose Cottage is unlike any other B&B we've seen and we absolutely loved it. Upon arriving, Carol, our wonderful hostess, led us up the garden path, literally, to the separate entrance to the accommodation. When we went inside we were blown away. The spacious hallway leads to a bathroom with a shower that could easily accommodate four people and then, to the right, up a couple of steps to a huge great room that boasts a fireplace, cathedral ceiling, two huge windows that look out onto the colourful garden. There are books and magazines galore and one large bed (can't remember if it is a double or king) and two single beds. The room is beautifully decorated and so very homey. But that is not the best part. Across from the cottage, literally across the road and about 10 feet of land, is the Moray Firth and looking to the right is the Kessock Bridge and Inverness. In this location, you can easily do The Black Isle, the Highlands and the Inverness area - making it a great "base camp." But what makes it even more wonderful are the mouthwatering breakfasts that greet you in the morning. Carol always has freshly baked bread and muffins along with cold meats, cheeses (and not just cheddar and brie) and hard boiled eggs; homemade jams and marmalades top it all off. Juices and coffee flow and the meal is accompanied, if you wish, by a lively conversation with Carol who is highly knowledgeable of the area and always happy and willing to help with the day's planning. The tariff is exceptionally surprising and would be reasonable if more expensive. As it is, it now stands at £25 per person per night, including that wonderful breakfast.. Would recommend this without any reservation at all. But call ahead, because The Rose Cottage has just the one room.
