“Heaven in the South of France”

My husband, son and I travelled to Monpazier on the advice of family and friends, and we stayed at La Barriere les Couges for 3 weeks in June/July. It was AMAZING! The house itself is beautiful, comfortable and clean, and the property it sits on is just heavenly! This pocket of France is bewitchingly beautiful, and even driving to the local marché to buy supplies proves to be an enchanting experience. It is surrounded by rolling green pastures, beautifully kept trees and foliage, and of course chateau after chateau, all ready for exploring whenever you can drag yourself away from the comfort and beauty of the house.
The property is large, while the house itself is perfectly-sized and very comfortable, with all the mod-cons you could hope for. The beds are perfect, the couches comfortable, the tv huge, and it even has good wifi! All of those modernities aside, the space to walk around the grounds is very beautiful - you can feel the history - and I found the magic of being able to cook and eat by the pool really makes for a HOLIDAY feeling. Just gorgeous.
I would highly recommend anyone to stay at La Barriere les Couges - families with kids, groups of friends, or just for a romantic getaway - it's just terrific...

“Wonderful French Farmhouse and Barns”
Reviewed 16 June 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We have just spent a wonderful ten days at La Barrier les Couges, an imaginavely and carefully restored farmhouse with extensive barns and outbuildings, which included an apartment separate to the farmhouse, in which we stayed. In addition to the main house there is a unique, fully equipped and covered outdoor kitchen and dining area alongside the swimming pool, all of which we used extensively during our stay. Many of the original features of the buildings have been retained and make it feel very authentic, something we particularly appreciated.

Couges made a brillient base for exploring the area, there were so many villages and small towns to visit, nearly all within a half hour drive, reached mainly via small local roads, through woodland and small scale farming. The Medieval houses and town squares built in the local cream coloured stone are breathtakingly beautiful. We found great picnic spots, excellent local restaurants and plenty of opportunities to buy local seasonal produce for our picnics and evening meals.

Certainly a destination to which we will return with family and friends.
