“Perfect base for expoloring Northumberland”
Reviewed 5 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Beautiful cottage, really well equipped and in a lovely setting. Only downside is the courtyard to sit in isn't private, it is just a small yard that is private. Luckily the river is 2 seconds away so easy to exercise the dogs and picnic benches there to enjoy the sunshine. Would still stay there again, it was everything we needed.

“Pleasant and complete, not for those who like a private garden and views.”
Reviewed 15 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Rothbury is really a nice little town and this property is close to the town centre without really experiencing any problems from it, like excessive noise.
I was a bit worried about the parking, but we managed to find a spot in the towncentre every time.

We liked to go on day trips to Hadrians wall, the beach, into Scotland and Rothbury is just the perfect location for that. Also great if you enjoy a walk.
Property was very complete, there is even a trolley to help you get your stuff from the car to the house, roadmaps and a book with suggestions asto where to go.

Now on the downside, we only realised that there is an upstairs neighbour when we received our final instructions. Maybe we missed that fact in the description?, but we assumed a cottage meant a whole house to yourself.

During our stay we had to come to the conclusion that some of the pictures of the property were missleading. We knew the property had no views, so no complaints there.
It really doesn't, all you see is a wall, but the river is close by and you'll have all the views you want from there. In future we will no doubt go for something with a view, but as we were out most of the time anyway, it did not really bother us.

The misleading bit is the pictures of the door. One shows the front door with the mailbox and the lock -takes some getting used to- and a 2nd picture is a photo of a door showing the name of the house and what lookes like a nice secluded seated area.
Now we were under the impression these were two different doors, why would anyone put the name of their house on the inside. So we expected a small private area to sit and relax.

But there is no such thing. There is only a communal garden which is basically a wide alley.
They did make an effort to make it nice, with flowering plants in pots, but there is only so much you can do and especially when people hang their laundry out to dry, it is not really inviting to sit down and relax.
So our next property will deffinatly have a private garden.

But all in all enjoyable place to stay and as said very complete.
What really disappointed was the financial side of things. Ofcourse that does not reflect on the property which as said is very nice and complete, but it did really annoy me in the end so.

Now as requested we made our payment by bank transfer, turns out this was a rather expensive way to pay, but as it was the only option....
So when it came time to receive our deposit, which they apparenlty had forgotten about, it was very annoying to find they'd decided to not transfer it back to our bank, as you'd expect, instead I got a message from pay-pall that they had my money. Well almost all of it, that is, cause I got 5 pounds less returned than I'd payed.

Ofcourse I inquired asto why I had not gotten the full amount returned and moaned about being forced to create a pay-pall account in order to get the money back. And even more annoying having to pay the costs of said transfer.
But they never bothered to even answer my message which makes one wonder....

So that is most unfortunate as it leaves a bad feeling after what basically was all in all a pleasant experience.

Many thanks for taking the time to review our property, we always welcome feedback and I’m thrilled to see you gave us four stars out of five. I’m really sorry to read that you found some of the photographs of our outside space misleading, we do make it clear in the description that the seating space is shared with the other properties in the historic Model Buildings and we’ve gone to every effort to make this space as comfortable as possible. We do have an internal private courtyard as described with additional outbuilding and storage space.

I’m very sorry but I don’t understand your comments about a bank transfer being the only way to pay. We accept payments online (through Holiday Lettings, Tripadvisor and our own website, by Paypal, by personal cheque and also by bank transfer). I remember when you booked you specifically said that you didn’t want to book via an agent website and asked if you could send payment direct, which of course we were happy to oblige. You were obviously very keen to plan your holiday in great depth and I counted 72 emails in response to your questions about the area, the property and suggestions on things to do and itineraries. Being so enthusiastic about the area I was more than happy to reply to every last email in a timely manner and be as helpful as possible.

Unfortunately due to a series of damages this year we do now feel the need to take a damage deposit, which was returned to you in a timely manner by the means that you requested immediately following your stay. I’m very sorry if you felt there was a delay or any confusion surrounding this, maybe these minor issues were ‘lost in translation’.

I’m very glad to hear that you would still recommend the property to other guests and value your feedback, we work really hard to maintain our five star ratings on all review sites. Many thanks, the owners of River Neuk.

A perfect base for both spectacular scenery of the Northumbrian National Park and the amazing Northumbrian coast. Well equipped, exceptionally clean property and owners that did everything possible to make our holiday a success. Little touches like the welcome pack of goodies to the dog towels in the porch make all the difference. An excellent location for walks along the river and popping to the local shops for all the lovely local produce. Came home with a carrier bag full of home made jam and preserves from the local church!

“Perfect, just perfect”
Reviewed 5 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

First time visitor and was over the moon with River Neuk, very well equipped, everything and more you could ever need for your holiday. Darren and Andrew have certainly gone the extra mile to make your stay special and the welcome pack was a bonus treat on our arrival. Already planning the next visit in the near future, so many more places to see :)
Perfect location for exploring the area and beyond.
