The bumpy journey along the one track lane is well worth it. Having bought a 5 day trip as a Christmas present, we were a little unsure as to what to expect. The hotel is beautifully set on the edge of Loch Awe, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Our accommodation was a bonus, with full self catering facilities and a wonderful patio overlooking the Loch. Yes a few of the fittings could benefit from a bit of tlc but nothing could detract from the beauty of the setting and everything was very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast menu and the quality of the other meals we ate was good. Excellent base from which to explore. We will definitely be back.

we book our stay at the cruise show, We were put in the coach house, which was away from the main part of the hotel. The coach house felt damp when we first entered, and was set up as self catering. The bathroom was small, to use the toilet you had to be slim. There was no shower curtain, we did ask at reception for one twice but to no avail. First day we booked at table for 7:15pm, At 7:10 pm we went to the table (great) by 7:40pm no one had come to take our order. We decided to eat in the other restaurant instead. Breakfast was a Scottish breakfast which was good. Its a shame that none of the staff were Scottish. also its a bit remote

Dear Gillian
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Portsonachan.
I am very sorry the accommodation did not live up to your expectations, however many people like the coach house and request the coach house rather than the main hotel, should you return anytime in the future please request the main hotel.
I am not sure if you ate at Portsonachan as we only have one restaurant, but I do hope you had an enjoyable meal wherever you ate.
Portsonachan is remote with wonderful views over Loch Awe, one of the main reasons many guests return year after year, once again thank you for your comments.
Kind Regards
Judith Parker

Just returned from a 3 night stay after buying voucher last summer from local steam fair event. Was well greeted even if telephone was very busy. Stayed in the Coach House. Was clean and comfortable however a little dated especially the bathroom. The outdoor staircase at the back was a little off putting but gave good view of the waterfall and deer. The view from the hotel was just stunning across the lake. The food very good with excellent choice for both breakfast and evening meal. Is very remote so can understand need to promote via regional fairs. Excellent value and an enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: a loch view room

We have just returned from a fabulous four night break at this hotel. Very peaceful and quiet - just what the doctor ordered. The scenery was amazing. There are boats and fishing rods available. We were on foot and the bus stop was four miles away, the hotel staff however dropped us off and picked us up daily at the bus stop to Loch Lomond, Inveraray and Oban. We went on a day trip to Isle of Mull. The food was very fresh and tasty. I had the most amazing smoked Haddock for breakfast which melted in my mouth and tasted like I've never tasted it before. The hotel and room was clean and the staff were friendly. We would thourghly recommend this hotel for a short break to Scotland.
