“Well equipped, spacious, south facing stone house nestled below the Castel.”
Reviewed 30 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

If you are looking for a fantastic location to explore the Perigord Noir region or want to spend lazy days in the heart of a Medieval village then you have found the right place!
La Rouquet`s balcony apartment is nestled below the Castel looking towards the chapel area with views of the valley below and woodland. The property doesnt feel like an apartment as not all rooms are on one floor but arranged across two with the lounge/sleeping area on a different level to the kitchen and shower room with the loft bedroom accessible by a small staircase in the kitchen. The well equipped, spacious and modern kitchen is ideal for more than two people which opens onto the balcony area complete with table and chairs and a parasol. The owners provided a shared untility area near the garden apartment which also stored the sunbeds. This place was a joy to wake up in each morning and a welcoming place to relax in after our various trips around the region. Hibiscus and roses adorn the steps and stone balcony which never seemed to stop flowering and each morning the hot air balloons drift right over head which we enjoyed watching from the balcony. We would definitely stay here again and have recommended it to friends and family.

“Best rental EVER”
Reviewed 21 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

This was the most beautifully furnished and homely rental house that we have stayed in. From the glorious large kitchen, the comfortable beds, the relaxing lounge and the tranquil garden. The area was also fantastic, slightly touristy but not too much. Near to everything that you could wish for but tranquil when you wanted to stay local. Beware the bells! Very charming and loud! Luckily, they only rang between 7am and 10pm. We actually loved hearing them, it added to the ambience of the village.
We would definitely rent here again, next time the garden apartment.

“Amazing location in the Dordogne for couples”
Reviewed 9 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We enjoyed our week in the picturesque medieval village of Castelnaud. The location was perfect as it was within a short drive of all the major attractions of the dorgogne - most 15 to 30 mins. A few minutes walk uphill from the apartment is the medieval castle of Castelnaud (a must!) and also cafes, gift shops and restaurants. A steep cobblestone footpath behind the church takes you down to the bottom of the village on the bank of the Dordogne river (3 minutes walk) where you'll find the village square with café, restaurant, village shop, bakery, post office and canoe hire. Supermarkets are in nearby villages.
The apartment is beautiful - extremely clean! Bathroom has walk-in shower, basin, toilet, good lighting, exhaust fan and heated towel rail. Kitchen is fully equipped including dish washer. Washing machine on lower level to share with garden apartment.
The twin beds in the loft bedroom are quite firm. There is a pedestal fan which we used every night as the weather was very hot while we were there.
The terrace leads off the kitchen and has a BBQ, table and chairs and umbrella. It overlooks part of the valley and the medieval village towards the church and was perfect for breakfast and glass of wine in the evenings.
We didn't get used to the bells but we did laugh about them - they chime every hour from 7am until 10 pm.
There is no TV, DVD player or stereo, only a small CD player/radio in the kitchen so bring some books to read in the evenings. There are some books and games there - scrabble, monopoly etc. We sat on the terrace every evening watching the hot air balloons drifting over - amazing!
Free parking at the church. We suggest you park near the church and carry luggage up as it is very difficult to turn around at the house.
Overall a beautiful, relaxing place to stay!

“Beautiful location”
Reviewed 18 December 2012 for a stay in October 2012

We stayed here at the end of the season, although it was cold outside it was very cosy snuggling up to the log burner, logs provided by the owners.
The views from the apartment were absolutely stunning, amazing Autumn colours.
A trip down to the first class bakers each morning for bread & croissants. Evening meals could be taken at one of the two restaurants in the square reducing the need to drive.
The apartment is very well equipped and spotlessly clean.
We intend to return in the summer.
