From the outset of choosing this villa I was in contact with Giorgio who sent me directions from Pisa, offered to buy in groceries as we were not arriving until late and giving advise regarding the villa. On arrival Giorgio and members of his family were there to greet us, show us around giving detailed information about local shops, places of interest and when and where to put out the bins etc. they were all very friendly, even giving us a bottle of locally produced wine to welcome us in!
The villa itself is very homely as the family use it so it had their personal possessions in but they had made cupboard space for us in each the three bedrooms. The bedrooms are comfortable enough with two large doubles and one smaller room with three single beds in which was fine for 2 adults but would be abut of a squeeze for 3 adults. Children in this room would be absolutely fine. There is a bit of crumbling painting work, but i had no problem with this as it reminded us we were in someone's home. The kitchen has enough space to prepare and cook with a great oven! There is a washing machine and dishwasher too, read on for more info on them. The bathrooms consist of a "family"bathroom, with bath and shower hose, toilet bidet and basin upstairs and downstairs is a cloakroom with toilet, bidet an shower. It is all pretty basic but everything works.
As long as you are not expecting 5 star pristine accommodation this is a lovely house to holiday in. With the veranda with views of the river to eat your meals on as well as a dining area suitable to seat 6 comfortably in the main lounge/ dining room, a BBQ and plenty of space if you want to sit quietly under the shade of a tree this house hits the nail on the head. It is perfectly situated to travel around the area, discovering numerous hilltop towns and villages, a few good restaurants in the locale as well as great gelateria and supermarkets. You are about an hour from Pisa and 90 minutes from Genoa if you want to go further afield.
The only criticism I would have is the taps drip and are quite hard to turn off and the ampage is such that you can only have either the oven, dishwasher, or washing machine on at any one time or the fuse will blow - it happened to us once, but we had been warned so it was our fault!
Apart from that I would highly recommend this villa for a relaxing, comfortable and easy holiday with great views of the Carrara mountains over the river.
Thanks to Giorgio and his family too for making us feel very welcome.
