A well appointed cottage with gorgeous waterfront views. Accommodated our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teensl and was on the whole mostly comfortable and well appointed. Situated away from the bustling tourist town of Tobermory on the tip of the cape, it's still easy to get to all the attractions and parks nearby. Living room/kitchen is very bright due to the large windows and skylights however it did get very hot in the living area by afternoon even with the fans going and the doors and windows open. Clearing away some of the cobwebs from the large windows helped to improve the view!
Due to the many stairs and uneven terrain, accessibility at this location would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues or even younger children. This is also not the ideal place for anyone with a fear of spiders as they cover much of the outside areas with their webs. We encountered stable flies for a few days which made it unpleasant to go down to the water and lower deck area which when the flies weren't around, was a very relaxing place to sit, listen to the water and watch the birds. The other wildlife were no problem and the wildflower garden attracted many bees and butterflies. The water in front of the cottage is super clear with a rocky bottom, water shoes made it easy to manage getting around. The kayaks were a wonderful bonus to have, two large lifejackets are provided, bring your own if you have kids. Despite much searching we could not locate the shipwreck that lies somewhere in front of the cottage.
Some issues to note: cottage rental is advertised with WiFi/internet but was not connected at the time of our stay. We had trouble reaching the owner at first and then it took a few days for him to arrange for service hook up, then we had to let the tech in to it set it up, some time lost waiting around and a bit of frustration having to deal with that while on vacation. Once it was connected though we had no other issues with it though, good speed and coverage.
Also, on arrival we discovered mould in the bedroom on the lower level of the cottage and had to clean and deodorize before feeling comfortable with sleeping there. After a day or two, the ceiling started to leak from condensation of pipes from the bathroom above and woke up to wet bedding and floor. The owner did show up to rectify this problem and set up a dehumidifier to help with the dampness and humidity that plagues the lower level. Again something not really wanting to deal with while on vacation and he was not apologetic and somewhat rude through the process. We only used the lower level for sleeping as it was not particularly pleasant to spend time there and very noisy due to the dehumidifier and in general was not a peaceful or comfortable place to sleep.
The upstairs was lovely so we made the most of that area of the house and given the issues with the lower level including a seriously warped floor (trip hazard), I would recommend only to families or couples that are able to occupy the upper bedrooms for sleeping (1 double and 1queen bed), plus the bathroom is pretty compact for four people and had very little storage space.
If you can overlook the above issues and focus on the positives then this is a private spot with lovely water and amazing sunsets right out your door.
A must stay vacation. Tobermory is a beautiful little town with loads to do. The cottage I stayed in (Huron Haven) was amazing! My pets loved the spot as much as us. It was a nice added touch having the hot tub since the beginning of our holiday was a little cool. Thanks again for a lovely spot, we will most diffidently be booking this spot again!
The cottage is very nice and clean. The lake is beautiful. The Bruce trail is nearby and national park. The landlords very helpful. We had a great time with the kids.
I enjoyed the time , very clean cottage, beautiful sunsets, well equipped cottage. very peaceful and has a nice deck and an additional deck by the water where you can sit and read a book or just enjoy the view.
We were very happy with the location and the waterfront. The cottage was fine with a few minor issues. We enjoyed incredible weather during our stay, but that also left the main floor of the cottage extremely hot during the afternoons. The bedrooms cooled down in the evening and the downstairs bedroom was cooler but also musty smelling. The whole cottage could have benefited from a better cleaning job, as there was mold on the shower curtain and cobwebs everywhere. The deck umbrella was broken so we couldn't use that, and the kettle provided didn't work, so we were boiling water in a pot, but those are small inconveniences. Otherwise we had a great time and there's a shipwreck off the shore of the cottage which makes for interesting viewing.
