Trip of a lifetime - there aren't enough adjectives to describe how stunningly beautiful Fiordland is!
We were fortunate enough to have enough time to wait for the weather to clear up. And man was it worth it! We were 2 couples booked for the same 3 hour flight from Dusky across to Doubtful and up to Milford Sound.
It may seem pricey but once you are up in the air, crossing across some much incredible terrain which would otherwise be inaccessible, you know you've made the right choice.
Our pilot Matt was an added bonus - informative, friendly, and most importantly competent! We felt we were in safe hands. He accommodated our requests, hundreds of photo opportunities as well as ticking a bucket list wish to stand at the top of Lake Browne and Browne Falls, named after my grandfather. Matt was happy to accommodate.
And don't forget to order the gourmet picnic lunch! Complete with champagne! It made the whole experience even more delightful - local cheeses, meats, crackers and fruit. It really hit the mark - although I suspect we were all so excited, we had to be reminded to eat!
The whole team at Southern Lakes Helicopters were charming, friendly and helpful, keeping us informed of weather situations and new possible flight dates.
