Recently stayed for 5 nights at the Horizon Blu in a room with a private pool.

The hotel is in a good location at the quieter end of the Kalamata seafront. The hotel is really modern, and set out very well. All rooms are very well appointed, and we particularly liked the private plunge pool. The breakfast is also great; especially the iced coffees!

The only thing that could be improved on is the service from the bar/ restaurant staff. The service was well intentioned but often slow. On the first night we waited over 20 mins for a cocktail.

Overall, would highly recommend a stay here!

We spent 3 nights at the Horizon Blu, and would have stayed longer if only they had a room available... The hotel is wonderfully spacious, quiet and calm, located at the Eastern end of the Kalamata promenade, making it the perfect choice for everyone seeking to enjoy the beach, pool and Greek tavernas, while sleeping in a comfortable and peaceful atmosphere. Pool is awesome and there are nice rooms with private pools all around the premises (we didn’t stay in such), which make you feel like the whole place is planted on water... Breakfast is rich and the staff super-friendly. This is a place we would surely return to.

This is Kalamata’s only five-star hotel, and it’s really excellent. As one might expect, it’s not cheap (although not exorbitant by the standards of five-star hotels in Western European countries). It is based around a large open-air pool with bar and restaurant areas beside it, There is also an indoor pool and spa, and attractive water features throughout. The sea is just across the road, and Horizon Blu staff will serve drinks to customers on the beach. The rooms are lovely and spacious, with air conditioning. The hotel is five years old, but everything is immaculate and pristine, as though it were new, and the staff work extremely hard to keep it that way.

It is ideal for families. Some rooms have private paddling pools which are great for smaller children. There is no loud music to keep children awake, although for those in search of night life there are bars nearby along the seafront road.

Some reviewers have criticised the breakfasts, but we thought the buffet breakfasts were good, with lots of choice. It’s possible to have lunch and dinner or bar snacks beside the pool or in either the open-air or the covered restaurant, but if you are staying a long time you might also want to sample the nearby beachside bars and restaurants for some variety.

There is free car parking, and there was always enough space there for our hire car even in mid-August.

There are very few drawbacks. It is a bit of a way out of the town centre (a 20 minute bus ride or a taxi ride - both cheap). The bar staff are attentive, helpful and mostly friendly, although they can be a bit slow in serving drinks and food - not a big problem if you’re lounging by the pool. Paying for drinks or meals by credit card (rather than by cash or adding it to the room bill) was a bit of a palaver, however - ridiculous for a five-star hotel; one needs to walk to the bar (and sometimes ALSO to the reception) to key in one’s PIN on the machine, as they don’t have portable card machines; it’s treated as a major transaction as though one were paying in Bitcoin or credit default swaps. That is one thing that needs to be remedied - portable credit card machines brought to the table would be a big advance.

But that is the tiniest quibble. Overall it’s a really lovely hotel with helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Nice site at the sea front! Great pool! Nice spacious rooms! Friendly staff!
Breakfast can become better if local products are served! Food is part of the Greek myth!
Worth the stay for vacation both for families and couples!

We were there for five nights. The room (with it's private small pool) was absolutely marvellous. The common pool is huge and, since the rooms are rather few, you can really enjoy it. The town is at your feet offering unlimited choices for food and fun.
But... both the breakfast and the pool services could have been much better especially for a 5star hotel.
In any case we really enjoyed it .... and we will recommend it...
