Executive Room was pretty pretty big. Swimming pool not working... lot of maintenance etc going on. Average breakfast with pathetic south indian cuisine. Bathrooms, etc not properly maintained. Otherwise it is descent from Room facilities, etc. Used restaurant which was decent as well

Hotel provided dirty towels and room like Govt Guest House in Delux category. Even door lock was not working. Keeping room condition a side, I just asked to change the Towel. Housekeeping said we provide same towel (blackish after a long use) in Delux category. I approached to reception and their reply was even more pathetic- “Sir then you should book luxury room, we provide white towel in that category”.
Next time on 01st Aug19, I stayed in Executive room (205) in west block. Bed mattress springs were piercing while layng/sitting. I showed same to housekeeping person and he was also agreed to me 7 also explained to reception. After that I asked reception to replace mattress and to the surprise, same reply by reception “we provide soft mattress in luxury category room”. I said I don’t want softone, just a normal mattress which springs do not pierce. They simply refused. Moreover water drainage in bathroom was not proper.
In Rs 3500, a person at least can expect clean towel & normal mattress in a Hotel.
In good hotels lower room category provide less facilities -like room size, sofa, fridge or other amenities, not the lower quality of towel & bed mattress. Sharing photos

Very bad hotel...specially west wing...please dont waste money by staying here...needs to improve rooms in west wing...terrible experience...there was not so much variety in breakfast...hope hotel will improve...

Having already stayed at The Landmark hotel ,Kanpur , our expectations were pretty high from a 5 star property at Kanpur but since on the subject day , the prices of The Landmark were way too high , so we looked for other options . That's when we came across The Vijay Intercontinental Hotel . With mixed reviews online , we just followed our intuitions & booked it .
Luckily , Vijay Intercontinental turned out to be a very good property . It's not a conventional 5 star Hotel as is being quoted but it is definitely a Good 4 star property.
Room was good , neat & clean with all modern facilities . Food was good too, especially the snacks that we had CBC Cafe near reception .
However , in-room service was pretty slow , may be because there was a big party going on in the hotel that day .
Can't comment much on the location (other than the fact that it seemed right in the middle of the city) as we were in transit & pretty tired when we checked in. So we didn't venture out.
Nevertheless, we had a pretty comfortable stay at Vijay Intercontinental . So if you don't want to shell out too much money & still enjoy ambiance of luxury hotels , the go for this hotel .
#Travel Tip : Instead of booking directly with Hotel , Counter-check prices on at least 3-4 booking portals before making payment as you can get surprisingly good deal on one or the other portal .
