Thanks to the IPL Match, I could not get any of my regular hotels in Kanpur.
I booked and prepaid a standard room at The Attic for two nights via Cleartrip.com
I reached the hotel late in the night, 11.30 pm and the room was kept ready with the aircon running.
The room i got was "2". A big room with two separate beds with a dirty thin carpet in between.
The bed cushion was hard, but offered good quality sleep.
There was no intercom in the room (though there was a wire and a socket for connection).
There was no TV remote. Walked to the lobby and got the caretaker to come to the room to find it, but even he could not find one. I finally downloaded the remote on the "control it" app and switched the TV on using the IR on my tab.
There was a red, old sofa set in the room, but was quite dusty and one of its leg broken. The broken leg was supported by a loose wooden log and a dirty rug.
Though the aircon was running for quite some time, the room was not getting cooler. The culprit - The air filter was completely clogged. I did not want to call the caretaker as i would have to walk to the lobby (Remember - No intercom!!). I opened the aircon, cleaned the filter, dried it and put it back. The aircon did it's job well.
There was a large empty BLUE fridge in the room.
The bathroom is big with dressing room furniture inside the bathroom. It was dirty and not maintained well. Hot water was available.
The room was not cleaned when I was away and the towel was not replaced. In fact, the towel I used the first day was put as a foot mat!!!
Nothing about the hotel has been maintained. Furniture is old (antique is something that is properly maintained). Things are just bought without taste or thought. Imagine this
- BLUE Fridge in a room filled with old furniture
- Red Sofa
- White side tables
- Reddish-brown TV table
- Glass Tea Table
The British age building begs for better attention and it could be a great hotel if maintained well and managed professionally.
I will never go back to the hotel. I would not recommend it to anyone.
