Just spent a week at the Villa Christina Protaras with my husband and 1.5 year daughter, and it we really loved it. The gardens were very well kept and the pool was crystal clear. The Villa was clean and light and airy, and the owner I thought was a very nice and interesting person. There were lots of toys, climbing frames and a swing for our daughter to play on. She was so happy just running around checking out the baby swallows nesting in the ceiling, looking at salamanders and investigating all corners of the garden. The pool is a few steps in front of the house, and on the left is a shaded area with table tennis, table and chairs and a BBQ, so we were able to cook BBQs and sunbath at hearing distance whilst my daughter napped indoors. The cupboards were full of towels, sheets, toiletries and kitchen goods with some cold beers, milk and food when we arrived, so we could settle in as soon immediately without having to dash out for a shop. We rented a car, which I would recommend for nipping about everywhere, especially with a child, but everything is at walking distance if you would rather not. The airport is a 45 minute drive away.
I really recommend this place. I think its a good find, and we will definitely come back. It would suit families with children but also a group of friends, since there is lots of room, large dining table, snooker table, darts, volley ball net, ping pong etc! And would also suit couples who just want to chill in the sun. The Villa has a “rustic” feel, so not the height of luxury if that is what you are looking for, but definitely a good value, clean, well equipped Villa with pretty gardens, 10 minutes walk from the town centre and beach.
We love Cyprus and the Protarus/Penera area and we found Villa Christina about seven years ago and we have come back every year since, sometimes more than once a year.
The most amazing thing about Villa Christina is the outside space. It is totally private and not overlooked at all, the pool is huge and the owner cleans it every 3 days in an evening and also tends to other matters should he have to. There is a BBQ and plenty of patio area to eat outside; my husband thinks he is a bit of a chef and he cooks in the villa and we eat outside most evenings.
The villa itself is a typical Cypriot villa, i.e. flat roofed and rustic and is full of personality. It has wooden furniture, table cloths, throws, pictures, photos and ornaments that for us form part of the Cypriot experience and reflects the warmth and friendliness of its owners.
The two bedrooms have air conditioning which is great and have wooden beds and wardrobes and shelves full of bed linen and towels. There are large windows and patios doors in the living space and we have them open most of the time to let the breeze through. The living room/kitchen/ dining room is open plan with plenty of space, with a wooden table and chairs to eat inside if you wish. In addition to this there is a sofa which can also be used as a bed, couple of chairs, a TV, DVD player, HIFI, book shelf with plenty of books and numerous games / toys for children, including a pool table and table tennis table.
The kitchen has everything you need, i.e. big fridge, microwave, washing machine and plenty of crockery and cutlery and there is also an electric bottled water machine which you can fill up at the nearby garage for 1euro (bargain).
The villa is always clean and tidy when we arrive and we respect this by maintaining it during our holidays.
There are some very good tavernas nearby in Penera, Paralimni and Protarus which we have become accustomed to and love and there are plenty of shops and bars within a five minute drive.
The neighbours are really friendly and we have met up with the owners on many occasion for drinks and socialising.
If you are looking for relaxation and total chill time then we highly recommend Villa Christina.
