Nice farmhouse converted to sleep 25 people, mainly in bunks. Pretty basic as you would expect for the price but well catered and in good condition. Nice bit of space outside and plenty of parking. Kitchen is decent to cater for this many people. The owners are very communicative and helpful. I think the target market here are large group trips with children rather than families or mixed adult groups. Ideal for a stag or hen though. So as long as you know what it is you won't be disappointed.
This place was amazing. Admittedly we had glorious weather for the weekend. We went as four families (so 8 adults and 9 kids) and the bedroom set up easily accommodated all of us with room to spare. Amenities we good but the real brilliance was the setting. Its on a farm so lots of land for the kids to play. We played touch rugby, cricket, there was a climbing frame for the kids and there were even animals to see (pigs etc). In the evening we hot a fire going and it had a proper camp feel - but then we retired to nice warm house to sleep. Paul the caretaker was on hand to help and was very friendly and Lisa who helped me arrange was also very professional. This is a hidden gem.
Such a beautiful location nestled in the heart of a large farm.
It was a group of ten of us looking to have a lovely weekend away. There was a big living room, kitchen, large garden with fire pit and a pizza oven which was tucked behind the property with a big tent/yurt so great for entertaining. Each room was very clean with bunk beds (one room has a single bed). Ample bathrooms for us all to use.
Paul who works there greeted us and showed us around. He went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our stay. He wouldn’t intrude but was always there if you needed him. Unfortunately we had a bit of car trouble that weekend so before we set off home, he checked the car over and gave us the piece of mind that we would be fine heading back to London!
There was another big group staying close by, but each part was separated off so we still felt like we had the place to ourselves.
It’s a great location - 5miles to Chard, 13 to a beautiful beach in Lyme Regis. Had we stayed longer, we would have explored more. The house was so relaxing you didn’t feel you had to leave if you didn’t want to, so was much more than a place to lay your head.
Thanks Paul for all your help and we would definitely recommend the Magdalen!
My friends and I booked this house as we were visiting River cottage for a dining experience for my husbands 30th.
The weather was fantastic and the settling was beautiful. The garden and outdoor space is perfect for children(and adults!) very big space and very safe. The house itself is very basic (yet cosy)but had a lovely farmhouse feel, plenty of room and just what you want for a large group. Paul the caretaker was very helpful, showed around quickly and then left us to it! The farm has lots of animals and a huge vegetable patch, all of which you are able to explore. Fire pit in the evening was great too! 10am checkout the next day was early however by the time we cleaned everything up and loaded the cars, it was gone 10am. They were not pushy in making us leave which was great as trying to round up a big group isn't the easiest!
Would definitely recommend this place. Great value for money and very relaxing.
We had a great weekend at magdalen trust staying in the farmhouse. It comfortably held the 17 of us in the bedrooms and the kitchen area was also able to cope with that number. The bedrooms had bunks which was ok although adults would have preferred normal beds. The lounge was a little small for 17 but this didn't impact on our stay. The surrounding farm land was lovely and we had great fun walking with the kids in the fields and visiting the pigs, chickens, goats and cows. Being wellies as it's muddy. Successfully got a Tesco delivery and take away curry delivered from Chard. Will book again.
