Had a fantastic holiday here at Coconut Court..
Hotel - We had a Superior Ocean View Room which although may be considered slightly old fashioned by UK standards had everything you needed (A/C & ceiling fan, safe, hairdryer, iron/ironing board, Sat TV, very spacious, clean, absolutely huge comfy bed which allowed both of us to sleep spreadout like starfish!) & a priceless view of the beach and sea..
People - All the staff at the hotel were lovely - special mention to Kevin (always singing), Nicole (Activities Co-ordinator), Amy (Reception) and all bar staff.. Always smiling and always happy... All the Bajan's we met were absolutely delightful & could not have made us more welcome.
Things to do while you're in Barbados..
- go out on a Catamaran so you can snorkel over ship wrecks & swim with Hawksbill Turtles (totally amazing experience).. I'd recommend to use 'Tiami' to do this.
- go to Oistens on a Friday night... It's called a 'fish fry' although the fish is actually BBQ'd.. It tastes absolutely delicious.. You basically get in line & choose which fish you want & it's served with salad, rice & peas (actually beans), fried plantain (delicious) and macaroni cheese.. Great washed down with a bottle of Banks (local lager)... Yummy..
- chill out on the beach with a Pina Colada or cocktail of your choice
- have a night out or two in St Lawrence Gap (the liveliest resort on the island although not overtly lively and no sign of lager louts as with the horrible resorts in Europe!)
- take a trip to Bridgetown for some duty free shopping although some of the perfumes are actually a little cheaper in UK airport due to exchange rates, etc
- use the public transport as much as possible!!! There are 3 types of buses. Our favourite were the 'Disco Buses' or 'Boom Boom Boxes'.. these are little white minibuses with a burgundy stripe down the side.. A number 11 goes from Bridgetown down to Silver Sands (which is past the Airport).. This route covers Coconut Court & there is a bus stop right outside (altho the buses tend to just stop for you anywhere anyway!) It only costs B$1.50 to go anywhere - so much cheaper than getting a cab & so much more fun!! Although perhaps a little intimidating at first - these became one of the highlights of the holiday!! I'm still amazed at how many people they manage to cram in to them!!
Places to eat...
Josef's (beautiful setting - expect to pay London prices but well worth it - exquisiste food), Pisces (delicious seafood in prime location - London prices again but sooooo worth it) and Cafe Sol in St Lawrence Gap.
More local to the hotel I'd recommend Mamma Mia - this is the Italian just across the road..
Other helpful bits of info..
Nearest ATM is Bank of Canada - turn right out of hotel entrance & it's a 5/10 mins walk down road on opposite side
Nearest place to get a Coffee/Latte/Mocha.. there is a little cafe within the Amaryllis resort which is the next hotel up the coast.. they do nice muffins & carrot cake too!
There is a convenience store just next to Mamma Mia
The nearest Chemist - turn left out of the entrance & keep walking until you reach 'Bridgend House' which is a medical centre (next to race course & Garrison Historic Centre) there is a chemist in the building next to the centre..
Hope you find this info useful & enjoy your time a Coconut Court... Can't wait to go back next year!!!
