I stayed here for a few night whilst I was working in Carterton. My room was in the main building above the restaurant. The room itself was lovely, spacious and clean. However the walls were very thin and I could literally hear peoples conversations word for word in the rooms next to me. Water pressure in the shower was very poor and the Wi-fi signal was extremely poor, which made it very difficult for me to do my work.
Breakfast was average, however the staff are very accommodating if you have any particular requests.
Overall, an OK stay, but let down by the poor Wi-fi and water pressure.

My Wife and I recently agreed to take on the periodical booking of our Lunch Club visits to local restaurants ,the Club has been running for over 25 years and we did not want to let them all down, so were a little apprehensive about our First attempt. We need not have worried as we FOUND a delightful venue in "THE VINES " Black Bourton ,Oxfordshire . Our Host's Karen and Ahdy were so accommodating and professional ,provided us with a Menu to suit and we sent out to our members for their choices . There were 21 of us on the day and we sat down to a really fantastic meal ,Table all laid up with Water at spaces down the table , service was absolutely spot on ,all served efficiently and with a smile ! I looked down the table as people were finished on the first course and all the plates were impressively empty ! A fantastic Choice of venue and the food could not have been better ,their Chef is really on the ball as are the rest of the staff. We could not be more pleased with our First Choice . It is going to be really hard to try and do as well on our next choice in a few months time . WELL DONE TO ALL AT THE VINES ! THANK YOU SO MUCH ! We will return at another time .

As in other reviews, the pictures are very miss leading. Arrived at around 1900 on our first night and nobody was there to greet us. We eventually found our keys to our room left on top of a information box around the back of the main building. The building we stayed in was round the back and very shoddy. Rooms and very basic and bed linen only gets changed every 3 days which is not what we expected from a 4 star hotel. The rooms are clean which is a bonus. Heating is on a timer so if you are planning to stay in the hotel throughout the day, take a coat. Again not ideal from a 4* hotel. Breakfast was nice and bar staff friendly enough. Would not recommend this hotel for more than 1 nights stay and would rate at 3*.

I have stayed at The Vines on numerous occasions and truly cannot understand how those "1 star" reviews can justify such comments. This place is an absolute gem - tucked away in quiet, picturesque Cotswold heaven, it is a peaceful and friendly place to stay.

The staff have been professional, helpful and friendly every time and there is a lovely local vibe to the bar in the evenings. The food has been excellent on every occasion - including the breakfast which offers a good range of cereals, continental pastries, yoghurts etc. as well as a good old full English cooked to order.

Having stayed in both the rooms above the bar in the main building and the newer rooms in the block to the rear, all rooms have been spacious and clean with good internet connection and lovely comfy beds. The modern wet rooms in the new block are very spacious and to accommodate disabled people.

The Vines is well located for day trips around the Cotswolds. I visited at their Vinestock festival on May bank holiday where they had live music all day and evening, a tug of war and lawnmower racing. It was lovely to see the local community spending time together.

I recommended this place to friends who stayed with elderly, disabled family who were similarly impressed. I look forward to my next stay.

Following the snow on Sunday 10th December I was visiting the church next door to place a wreath on my fathers grave on the 12th. The snow had caused branches to come down in the churchyard so contractors were blocking the church parking. I parked in the front of the Vines to pop to the Church and was asked if I was a resident at the Vines, I said no but explained the situation and I was told in no uncertain terms that "if i didn't move my car he would" I said he was being unreasonable due to the weather but was told I was unreasonable.
I have been a customer on a few special occasions at the Vines but I will never be again. This treatment has left me disgusted with them, while i understand they do not want unauthorised cars parking in their car park, to be spoken to like this and with the road conditions as they were I feel they do not deserve to be patronised. A simple conversation pointing out the error of my ways and a polite warning that I could do it this once due to the conditions but that it would not be allowed normally would have been more than enough!

Confusion on arrival as door to bar & restaurant closed. Directed to cottage, where the door was open but no one there. Resorted to phoning to get access to bars. Or room was at the back on the 2nd floor. Good size room and bathroom, clean but lacking finesse, functional. very little drawer space or shelves for toiletries etc., but as we were only there for a couple of days not a huge problem. Comfortable beds, double aspect with plenty of lighting for my wife to apply her make up. Shower was a wet room with the shower head some what high, my wife couldn't reach it to adjust. Also the entire bathroom floor would be wet, so that after a shower if you wanted to go back in, you got your feet wet!
Breakfast was fine, few people staying on the Friday night so a specific order was taken, very good. Sunday morning much busier and a help yourself regime in place , although you could order poached/fried eggs if wanted. Overall, breakfast was good.
Value for money, yes, but we wouldn't wanted to have stayed any longer

Room tip: 2nd Floor in the rear accommodation
