Stayed 2 weeks in December 2017-January 2018. Nicely maintained property up steep road, 15 min walk to small grocery & great beach. Outside dining area, washing machine & dishwasher in unit. Best feature was the hosts, Chantal & Thierry, very helpful & informative, always available. Beds were comfortable, two large dining tables had plenty of room for our family of up to nine people; very quiet (except for the roosters!). great location to get anywhere on Basse-Terre; choice of several beaches, all lovely; nice showers in each bedroom.. Five min drive to Deshaies town. Pool was nice to cool off in on hot afternoons.
This wonderful villa is just 45 minutes from the airport in Basse Terre, and sits up on a hill so it affords the most amazing view of the sea. It is spacious and open with high wooden beam ceilings and a large window and door that opens from the kitchen and living room to the deck. The deck was where we spent most of our time. There are two large tables and some deck furniture so there's plenty of seating. Perfect for enjoying the cooling morning and evening breeze and incredible view. There's also a hammock.
The bedrooms are simply furnished but nicely decorated, beds were comfortable and each bedroom has it's own well running wall AC unit, and it's own sink and shower; sometimes hot water, sometimes not. There are two toilets between the bedrooms which seemed like an odd arrangement, but it didn't pose any problems. The appliances were modern and a couple of times the sink backed up, and when that got fixed, the dishwasher leaked! But whatever the problem, the owner was there promptly to fix it. There's a washing machine, no dryer, but plenty of space to hang clothes to dry. Bath and beach towels are provided.
Chantalle also offers the option to have a meal cooked and delivered by a local woman for a very reasonable price and she also prepared a lovely huge fruit and flower basket with bottles of local rum, Ti punch and a creme rum drink made with coconut milk and flavored with cinnamon and various spices. Delicious!!
Perfect location to many beaches, you can even walk down the hill to Grand Anse, and it is just a few minutes drive into Deshaies, a charming little town with everything you need. The pool is shared but very quiet most of the time.
The one thing I would definitely mention is the difficulty we had initially finding it!Especially if you are arriving after dark; but look out for the sign at the bottom of the driveway that says OASIS Grand Anse. Chantalle lives on the property so she will be there to greet you once you find it. Also being on-site made for very easy communication.
A cautionary note: plan for a lot of traffic when going back to the airport if you are going during the week. We were taken by surprise at the heavy bumper to bumper "rush hour" starting very early in the morning!
Overall this was a wonderful place and our every request was promptly attended to. Truly a hidden gem, and will definitely return if we are lucky enough!!
