Take away menu was superb

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 15 Apr 2021
We ordered the take away menu during COVID-19. It was delivered in our bungalow. We had a three course dinner and we loved every single one of them. The starter with gamba’s in soya sauce was full of different exotic tastes. The main course with lamb... wow! And the desert was out of this world... recommended

This hotel is located in a great area for walking in the dunes near the beach. The room is perfectly fine but what we really went for was the Restaurant. Even eating in our room made it all worth while since the Michelin star is well deserved. The meals from the normal restaurant were also nice but doing the menu from premier restaurant is definitely worth the price. The rooms have a few annoying things. First, the toilet room light automatically turns on and floods the room with light in the middle of the night. It should be a nightlight in there, not an automatically turned on bright light. Also, there just are not enough hooks to hang up wet towels in the bathroom thus requiring a towel change every day (not a sustainable practices) and these days hotels are moving away from individual sized soaps and toiletries. A bit more effort could be taken to be green. Other than that, the hotel is perfectly fine.

We had reserved in the restaurant. Once sitting down we were waiting for about 30-40 minutes. We had ordered the 5-course surprise menu. The first courses that came which were delicious. During the dinner we received the menu and then understood why we had to wait for 30-40 minutes. We did not get the three amuses !!! We made the sommelier aware of this. No excuse of comment was made and the sommelier simply forgot. I paid the bill, and on my way out I mentioned this again to the sommelier. Checking out the next morning I paid EUR 662 for the night + dinner and received a box of chocolates for the "inconvenience". Truly a disappointing experience, we have stayed there, multiple times in the past, and we are more than unsure to stay there again.

Stayed at the hotel, including breakfast, dinner at the brasserie and dinner at the Michelin star restaurant.
We had a good-sized roon, which was weirdly decorated - not our taste. There was a huge bathroom with bath and shower stall. Open of course, so the bathroom floor gets wet. And in spite of the ample size and the good supply of towels, there was no spot anywhere to hang them. Thye could easily have made a proper towel rack on the one wall that sported a single hook. Separate toilet, which is always good. Good mattress, pillows too floppy. Our room was in a quiet corner, with restful views over sopme fields.
The restaurant was certainly worth its star, beatifullly presented tasteful food. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Breakfast was served at the brasserie. In spite of corona rules, there was a buffet and social distnacing was not observed.
Dinner at the brasserie was OK, just what we expoected from such an establishment.
The e-bikes we had rented from the hotel to explore the beautiful countryside were not well maintained unfortunately.
But all in all we had a pleasant 3 day stay.

First time in Merlet because the original hotel was closed. A very high quality hotel, full service and very friendly people. The rooms meet a high standard. Unfortunately I did had not the time to visit the Michelin star rated restaurant, will keep that for the next time.

What an experience we had at this amazing & superbly organized evening, where the Merlet's head-chef 'Jonathan Zandbergen' & 'Thomas Bühner' (the renowned '3 Michelin Star Chef from Germany) served an 8-course dinner, accompanied with several very special appetizers.

First, we were all welcomed in the 'golden room', yes, everything was golden, even the ceiling! Amazing! And the champagne they served ' Ruinart' was absolutely great, good choice to start with also!

The main restaurant looks modern, yet chique, great chairs also. Ever seen a wall covered in 'moss'? No? Well, here you can see it!

The whole evening was one to remember. The attention to detail, the combination of food vs. wine (yes, they even had 'alcohol-free champagne & wine' for the designated drivers) & the difference in flavors... Superb!

Words that come to mind:
- Superb
- Classy
- Exquisite
- Tasty
- High-end
& Great food vs wine combinations by the sommelier!

In short 'Do Visit Merlet at least once.... You'll surely won't regret it'!
