In summary…..

To be fair, the views of the majority of reviewers here are reasonably at one with my own. We have stayed in better 4* hotels and occasionally worse ones. I would suggest my overall rating here would be 3.5* really and that given the amount we paid we were more than happy even with its shortcomings.

In detail…….

Biggest asset are the staff - in the vast majority those we incurred were very pleasant, friendly and helpful. The restaurant waiting staff were all very attentive and pleasant and then you would find the same staff working long hours serving drinks in the main bar areas, still with a smile!

Rooms and general decor are looking “tired” and in need of a refresh / refurb, although they are perfectly clean and serviceable. Some might be pleased to find a number of British TV channels available on the room TV. Although not necessarily expecting it, we had asked for a room on a high floor that got the sun and possibly a pool or sea view. On checking in we were pleasantly surprised the receptionist say our request had been granted. When they said the Room no was 110, I was a little suspicious and sure enough, when we got to the room it was on the 1st floor and only got sun on the balcony from around 3.00 for a couple of hours but did have a pool view!

Wi-fi in the rooms was of a very good standard but in the main traffic areas of the Bar Hall, the area outside of the Bar Hall, the Restaurant and Main pool and roof area it was woeful, even non-existent at times! There is no need for this in an age of relatively cheap routers, repeaters and transmitters.

I’m afraid that I cannot agree with the majority of reviews that rate the food as very good. Varied and copious yes, but in my opinion (apart from the omelette station and dessert station), consistently of a poor quality / standard / consistency / temperature and presentation. I really do not want to be directed to a microwave to get hot food. At no point during our stay did we see a Head Chef or Restaurant Manager make an appearance. Whenever we have stayed in a hotel where the food has been consistently good, the Head Chef can usually be found at the Show Cooking station or close to, AND the Restaurant or Hotel Management can be spotted walking the Restaurant and chatting with random guests. To me, if it were my hotel it would be a pre-requisite of direct polling of customer satisfaction. Here, the front of house cooking staff seemed more interested in either day-dreaming or chatting with each other than listening to a customer as to how they would like their meat cooked or as to which piece of fish they might prefer or how they would like their eggs fried!. Lovely to have steak on the menu but if it is repeatedly tough and gristle, it is not in the least appetising to want to try again. At no point did we see Swordfish or Tuna Steak or Lamb Chops that we have repeatedly seen at 4* show cooking stations in the Canaries. Similarly, on the first morning it was wonderful to find back bacon of a high standard and not always expected in the Canaries, however from Day 2 this was replaced with the usual undercooked very high fat content streaky style bacon rashers and “English style” breakfast sausages of large cereal content and little meat content! Sadly starters and mains were quite a let-down but to be balanced, the variety, taste and flavours of the desserts and fresh fruit was right up there with the better ones we have come across.

Lastly, entertainment. Here the hotel is no different to the vast majority of AI type hotels in the Canaries that we have stayed at. Yes, I am retired, but why, oh why, do the Hotels think we should be dealt entertainment from a musical perspective that my parents would have listened to in the 1950’s !!!!! Actually that’s a little unfair as some of the “Live Music” in front of the hotel did occasionally break out into some songs from perhaps the 90’s, before going back to default! The entertainment on the “Main Stage”, when there was any, consisted of the usual staff show, magic acts and dance acts. The closest to good live music or a tribute band were the Maquinara band who were a quality live music act that genuinely entertained. Contrast this with a stroll along the Adeje prom when you can repeatedly find live music much more up to date and of a much higher standard. Yes, the difference is you have to buy your drinks, the hotels AI wristband has no buying power here!

We regret that, in some respects, we have not fully met your expectations on this occasion, however, we will review all the issues raised and will continue to work to introduce all possible improvements.

We are sorry that the food service did not meet your expectations. We offer a wide and varied buffet in order to please the tastes of all our international customers, we constantly check the temperature and cooking of our dishes, during the services and our staff carries out various checks to maintain a high level of quality in all our products, furthermore, in our restaurant during our services there is always a restaurant manager or and a chef available however, we appreciate your feedback, and it will be discussed with our chef.

We regret that you did not like the entertainment, we try to adapt the program as much as possible to all ages by having an extensive entertainment program with many activities during the day and different shows and live music every night.

We are happy to know that you appreciated the cleanliness of the hotel and thank you also for highlighting the friendliness of our staff.

We are just back had a amazing time with family and friends at this hotel would definitely be back we had no issues at all friendly staff great food n very clean nothing was a bother the bar staff were great plus the entertainment was really great well done to the animation staff putting on good shows , there's loads of choices of food they thought of everything you would want and we had a great time we were on the roof most of the time loads of beds only adults there was couches n beds so plenty choice plus the bar was open from 10-30 till 6pm we had good bar staff Moses ,arelia n Lorenzo to also Jen's on entertainment it has massage, jewellery shop,games,nail salon,n hairdresser too cannot fault this hotel at all happy times here

This is the fourth time my Wife and I have stayed at the Fanabe and although we enjoyed our stay it was not as good as the 3 previous occasions, we assumed it was a result of the long spell of down time as a result of the pandemic and as the hotel was absolutely full it would take a little time to resolve some of the issues they are experiencing, especially in the restaurant where on some days the menu was more 2/3 * than 4* and sometimes some foods were warm rather than hot but plenty of selection on the menu.
Some minor issues were present in some areas with being a bit dated and in need of some TLC but no big issue for us. There were plenty of sun beds around the hotel and on the roof which is adult only, but this did not stop the early bed claimers sneaking around at 7-00am in some cases booking 8 beds at a time and not returning to use them for several hours? despite the hotels attempt to stop them.
The entertainment is good with a choice each night at the Pool or Lobby bar and shows for the kids also, the Lobby bar sometimes was a bit repetitive with the same act 2 nights running but as they played 60s and 70s music most people joined in,
But without doubt the best by far asset in the Fanabe is the staff, from the time you arrive in Reception all the staff are Wonderful and so helpful to ensure you enjoy your stay, and you are made so welcome and nothing is to difficult from the restaurant, bars and cleaners they all contributed with a very high standard, you expect such service from management and senior staff but the younger less experienced staff also impressed us with their helpful and professional service, there were far too many who excelled to name them all but we give a mention to Julian who served in the Lobby bar who displayed the perfect attitude and friendliness you want on holiday, We will definitely return in the future and expect to see those issues in the restaurant resolved

Room tip: Pool views would be best from second to fourth floor

So came with my Wife and 10 year old twins for a 10 night, well deserved break on a B and B basis.
Hotel location good. Room very nice, cleaning staff cant fault, bar staff excellent, entertainment staff brilliant. Overall an excellent hotel.
Let down today by pool shop woman who refused to reinflate my daughters inflateable, which by way never stayed up from initial purchase, was told thats how it is. The other shop staff have reinflated it all week with no problems, however today was told it was against the law!!!!!
Was going to rebook here but will now look at different hotel. Such a shame this one and only negative encounter.

Overall nothing to complain about, however this is not a 4• hotel.

Room size very reasonable, although dated. Air conditioning was poor. Beds comfy.

Some staff were very friendly and welcoming, others not so. Entertainment limited and not the best.

Location is fabulous, with a short walk downhill to the beach/promenade.

Food very repetitive, and not a great choice of menu. Lunch time snacks available, but AI is very limited choice (small pieces of pizza, hotdog, fries, hamburgers). If you were paying, appeared to be much better quality. You can eat in the main dining room at lunch too, which offers more variety.

All areas kept clean. 3 pools, 1 main, 1 area with 2 small pools for children, and 1 pool on the roof which is adults only.

Having stayed at 4• hotels many times, this does not compare in any way. However, if you’re looking for a clean hotel with basic amenities (especially for AI) you won’t be disappointed.

The air conditioner has a small switch next to the telephone where it is possible to change the power level, we regret that we could not give you this information during your stay.
With regard to the snacks at the pool bar, we regret they were not to your liking, we offer a variety of snacks from 10 am till 6:00 pm, including different types of cold meats, cheese, bread, cakes, fresh fruit, ice creams, etc. Other options at the pool bar would be freshly cooked hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, French fries, or slices of pizza.
We are happy to know that our beds were comfortable for you and that you liked the location of the hotel.
