Down to earth bistrot that kept it's soul of the mining-times ....
The Museum did not alter it's character ...
Dieu soit loué !
Simple food for a decent price ...
Le nord as you want it .. straightforward without a lot's of tralalala ....
We'll be back ... for the food and the good laughs ....

After having been turned away by the Louvre museum restaurant (they were fully booked by 10.30), and after having tried the museum cafeteria (a lukewarm 'grand cafe' in a paper cup with a 'nuage' of milk in a small, sealed pot for the princely sum of €3.5) we finished touring the museum and went in front to the Brasserie Chez Cathy and what a lovely surprise it was. We were warmly welcomed, had to wait at least 3 minutes for a table even though the restaurant was full, and our table was cleared quickly and efficiently. The food is brasserie which is not what I particularly go for so my friend and I shared a double mergez with salad and were convinced by the young lady to try the frites (which I never eat). However, these were 'frites maison' and they were delicious, accompanied by a respectable glass of champagne and for a very reasonablel price. Merci beaucoup les filles.

Warm and friendly welcome: the Gens du Nord are like that. At Cathy's everybody is comfortable, happy and Comme Chez Soi (like at home). And if you like to taste the delicious and affordable Potjevleesch, or a Flamiche or a Carbonade (with a beer of course), you will be satiated and you will become a real Chti. This experience is more necessary after The Louvre Lens than any other restaurant around.

I'm tempted to rate this more highly but don't want to give other visitors unrealistic expectations. It's a "chips-with-everything" restaurant, but the cooking is sound and the chips good, and the service is friendly. There is a reasonably-priced plat du jour and a choice of other dishes. The place was full when we arrived, but the staff contrived to make room for us and looked after us well. Not a bad watering-hole if you are visiting the new Louvre, but it would be as well to get there early or reserve - other visitors have discovered it!

Very warm welcome. Quick friendly service. The food was hot , freshly cooked and delicious. One speciality is their home cooked proper chip and they were good. The menu is very french and very good. I would eat there again when I revisit the Louvre for another look. Good food reasoably price.
