This hotel on the beach front has beautiful views. However this very tired looking hotel could do with a total remake. The rooms could do with repainting and repair to walls and all fittings. The bathroom in the unit we had was very damaged. The staff failed to lock the adjoining room, as we were unable to lock this door ourselves, the people next door tried to enter our unit....security risk!!! .I tried to call reception..answerphone, then tried the main Hotel land line..answerphone,this is at 7pm. At checkout I had to retrieve my prepaid documents as they tried to recharge us again and at a higher rate. The staff did attend to all these raised matters, and offered us free breakfast.

Room tip: If you can get a discount rate........maybe, however there are other Hotels

Dear KiwiJeoff,

Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback and for the compliment in regards to our location and the views. Although we don't enjoy receiving negative feedback, it provides us with the details we need to know moving forward with our renovations and customer service efforts. Three weeks ago, we started repainting our hotel rooms. We have completed a portion of our rooms and will continue until every room has been repainted, so that should be well received by our guests moving forward. We have informed our housekeeping staff to be more diligent with locking/unlocking our adjoining room doors. We have also instructed our reception staff to be more careful when helping guests check out as we take pride in having great customer service. We hope you will consider staying with us at the Punakaiki Resort in the future.

We stayed in this hotel in 2015 and thought every aspect was fantastic - so we so pleased to book it again.

As you can imagine the location on the beach remains fantastic, the sunsets beautiful and the night sky incredible. I have never seen the Milky Way so clearly - oh my goodness it was amazing.

The staff were so customer centred, helpful and gave excellent advice about the rooms with the best ocean views (not on the ground floor).

The rooms were nice however need to be better equipped in the kitchen - crockery, bottle opener. Also, need drawers for personal belongings. Drawers in need of clean, food debris present.

Generally, it is getting rather tired and needs to be refurbished. However it is a fantastic location, staff are wonderful and so it remains a lovely place to stay.

Room tip: Do check out which rooms give the best ocean view - the waves are awesome.

It is not super luxurious or smart or special, but it is the best in that area, food was good at night and breakfast too. Service was also very good.
The hotel is a bit dated and awkward but cabins were clean and well heated

Everything was good until middle of the night fire alarm sounded 3 times. Called the receptionist to check if it's a real fire but no one answered. When the 3rd alarm ring we didn't care anymore lucky it isn't real fire Jus someone's room got heated.

Dear Ellen M,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We would like to confirm that there was no fire in the building; however, we do apologize for missing your phone call at reception. The alarm was set off in a neighbouring room due to the misuse of a bathroom heater. We have taken steps to ensure this won't happen again at the resort.

Did I say the views are what you're here for? The views are amazing, Pancake Rocks are very close by. The layout of this resort is a bit awkward. Perhaps it is intended to better take advantage of the spectacular views. It's just wonderful to walk around Pancake Rocks. Restaurant, room, and services were all ok. No complaints. The spectacular part is the view. I would like to have stayed longer to soak up more this dramatic coastline.
