My partner and I biked there along the Rail Trail from Waihi. The first thing we saw really was a sign at the front door saying “No takeaway food to be consumed inside”, which is a fair enough rule but does it really need to be said? The toilets are locked and you have to ask for them to be opened. There is a water station but not for filling up bottles! So many rules for a cafe! They are near the rail trail for goodness sake, of course people will want to fill up their bottles and use the toilet, just let them. Other than that, we waited at least 30 minutes for two coffees, a scone and a bacon and egg pie from the cabinet despite there being no customers in front of us when we arrived. It seems to me that the owners dont really want to deal with the realities of running a cafe. They should be making customers feel welcome, not a hassle. Then they will return, we wont be. I felt a bit sorry for the lady who was working her first day there as she seemed to be trying really hard but had to deal with a slow kitchen and hungry customers.

The staff here are extremely rude! They treat people like crap and shouldn’t be in hospitality!! Lots of tourist coming through and they were mean as... also the place smells of burnt old oil so no doubt the food would be a bit rank oh and the coffee was bad and not even filled up to the top... avoid

We only had a snack lunch at this lovely quirky cafe, but the BLT was really good. The garden is a lovely spot to relax in and it's handy for the great Gorge walks.

Rude and unaccomodating. Hard to find anywhere as unfiendly as this. Cannot believe that you can treat customers this rudely. Only way this place can stay in business is because there is nothing else around. The other bad reviews are spot on !!!!

Rude, absolutely lazy service, overpriced crappy food. Refused to give a takeaway cup for coffee unless the rest of my order was takeaway, prices are double of other cafes but they serve barely edible food made with no love. Couldn't even be bothered to give a spoon with the coffee.Never ordered food anywhere in my country and not had it come with a polite smile and a friendly response. Never written a bad review either.
