I had a group of 12 teachers from the USA stay here in July and we all loved the hotel, the staff, the location. The staff are so helpful, speak English well and Mr. Albert is a great resource for problem solving. There is a small gym where everything works, rare for the region, and there is AC. Good restaurant right next door and many other options just down the street. Parking is easy, traffic not bad and you are in the center of town in 5 minutes. The rooms are large, the beds comfortable, plenty of closet space, etc. Internet worked very well. All in all my best hotel experience ever in Erbil in my 11 years of going there. I will be back!

Stayed in a single room, very clean, all that you need and the breakfast good too. The internet specially good, I'm talking best I've seen in a hotel, I'm talking 50Mbps!

Have not tried the Gym or Sauna yet, but in this heat I'll probably pass on the sauna, but test the Gym. For a 3 star hotel, it behaves like a 4 star and charges you a great deal and that's what makes this place click for me.

Merci hotel was conveniently located in a more modern section of Erbil. The rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious, lacking nothing. The staff was warm, friendly and spoke good English. The food at breakfast was fantastic. We enjoyed the staff there and the buffet offerings... Maybe 10 pounds too much.

Room Tip: ask for high floor

Merci Hotel has clean, spacious rooms, consistently low rates, and most of all, impeccable service. You won't find more hospitable hotel staff in all of Erbil, from Albert at the front desk, or Rasool, who would personally bring breakfast to my room on the days I slept in. Without exception, I've always been upgraded to a spacious suite, which is a perfect place to do work and have guests. The rooms are spacious, have great light, clean, quiet, with strong AC. You can book in advance online, often for $50 a night, which is pretty unbeatable in Erbil.

The hotel has two restaurants, both of which are decent places have meetings, but the main restaurant does close fairly early in the evening. The hotel itself, near the car district on 100 meter road is a little secluded, which can be a good thing if you want to avoid bumping into people you might know or just want privacy. While it can take a while to travel from Merci to Ankawa, there's a steady stream of cabs passing by. Plus, the staff here goes above and beyond.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to a suite

Stayed at Hotel Merci for ten nights during the unforgettable Erbil International Bookfair, which takes place annually in early April. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport. After landing at the arrival terminal and clearing customs, there is a regular shuttle that takes the travellers to the outer terminal, where city taxis are allowed to pick up passengers for a cost of around $20 to take them to downtown Erbil.
From the hotel to Erbil’s centre (its renowned Citadel), a five-minute taxi ride would cost about four dollars.
What impressed about this hotel is the courtesy and efficiency of its staff: Albert, Rita, Qaiser (Rasoul), and Jasim. And the spacious breakfast hall is managed ably by Ahmed, the cook. The owner, Dr. Mahmoud, personally supervises the hotel’s overall operation, making sure of the guests’ comfort and satisfaction. (Incidentally, he holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from London U.). All these people go out of their way to make one as comfortable and pleased as possible, by responding immediately to any concern or request. They never say No to whatever one requests: it seems that the word “No” does not exist in their vocabulary.
The rooms are clean, quiet and tastefully furnished. I suggest asking for a room on the upper floors to secure maximum tranquility. The hotel is reasonably priced, given the quality of the service provided.
Needless to say, this hotel has been and is going to be my home away from home. I wish to thank TripAdvisor for enabling me to choose this excellent hotel among many very good hotels that Erbil now has.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floors for maximum tranquility.
