We had a wonderful stay at the Generations resort hotel. We traveled with a one year old for the first time out of the US and all went well considering a couple challenges with our baby having bug bites and developing bad diaper rash coming in from Dallas. The staff was absolutely super and accommodating in every way! The room was outfitted with a crib for us as requested prior to our stay.
When we checked in they gave us a card to check off any other baby amenities we wanted for the room, like a changing table, baby bath tub, stroller, sanitizer and etc. That was very nice and considerate for those seeking a much needed vacation with your child. Everything checked was brought to the room immediately. Our 20 mo. old child slept great in the partitioned living room section with the crib provided. Even though our room was on the 2nd level (a infinity swim up room), it was not too loud to nap during the middle of the day. We enjoyed the big room and personal swim up space immensely. We had a great view of the sea, pool and palms right in front of us. You can also hear the waves at all times but not pool noise as much, which was perfect. The room was quite spacious with two tables and lots of space for storage of luggage and personal clothing and toiletries. I very much liked the robes and shoes provided.
We come to Mexico at least once a year and we like to visit different resorts and are not members of the hotel clubs. Still the concierges and staff never made us feel less than a member at any point. We even had our room cleaned and were given turn down service, even with the baby nightly. They were all gracious and helped us with anything and everything we needed whenever we visited their lounge or spoke to butlers running around. This was very much appreciated! The staff even went around the resort so we could get items for our baby who had bad diaper rash, including baking soda for the baby bath and intensive diaper cream. They were always extra sweet to us and researched down anything we were even curious about.
All of the concierges were very nice but our go to guy was, LUIS!! He was a 5 star employee all the way! The resort needs to do what it can to keep him. He was soo friendly and would walk us to wherever we needed to go, greet our son all the time and picked him up and acted like our boy was his. He went above and beyond and made us feel comfortable asking him for help with everything! He never seemed frustrated with us or tired of us either over the 7 days we were at the resort!
The food was really good and pretty gourmet. We never went hungry. I know some Americans like giant portions of food and don't like petite portions, but when traveling in Mexico at all inclusive restaurants the portions are sometimes a little smaller because you can order 4-5 courses (appetizers, soup/salad, entree, and desserts). If every portion is large and you don't like something there is a lot of waste and who wants to see food wasted? You can always order more of anything you like as well. We also loved the selection at the buffet for breakfast and one day we saw a lady making homemade blue corn tortillas and quesadillas. We also loved Palms for lunch or breakfast right overlooking the beach and pier, it was breezy and had a beautiful view, great servers and food.
Our 1 year old loved going to the kid's club, which is set up more for kids that are 1 - 8 years old. (Perfect for us for the next several years!). We hired a babysitter as well for a night so we could go over to the adult side for dinner and that went well! We never felt worried at all. The staff at the kids club were so polite and great! We also liked that the big pool had side pool areas that were shallow for little tikes to play and the kiddie pool and kiddie sun loungers were too cute!
I went to the spa at Casitas and had a great massage outside on a pier at the beach! I highly recommend this as I did not feel hot or uncomfortable there at all. It was great hearing the waves during my massage. After I hung out at the hydrotherapy, steam rooms and small pool area for a couple hours! That was a nice retreat while the hubby took care of our son doing other things.
2 minor things I think that would make this place even more 5 star would be:
1. Having someone playing guitar or sax at some of the restaurants or buffet in the am and at dinner. Live music by the ceviche bar at the pool for an hour or two during the day would make that area more busy I am sure!
2. Loved room service but being able to order a couple cocktails with room service besides just beer would be awesome since there really isn't a way to get cocktails at your swim up room without going down to the pool area.
We have stayed at a couple newer more modern adult only resorts before, but the care, and hospitality of the staff here at Generations is not paralleled. Must be a Lomas property thing. We highly recommend this resort for singles, families, and those with small children alike.
