Wonderful stay

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 22 Mar 2024via mobile
We stayed here for 4 nights in a spa suite. The room was very spacious, clean, well decorated and had everything we needed. The bed and pillows were really comfortable. We had an incredible view! They are building new units which would block the view from several rooms, but we were far enough off to the side it didn't bother us. Parking was outside each room.

The motel is a reasonably short walk on a pretty path to the visitor center and the start of several trails (Kea Point was one of my favorites, and the Governor's Bush walk). It's right next door to the Chamois Bar & Restaurant, a large place with lots of tables and a big window so everyone gets a view (you order at the bar and seat yourself). We cooked for ourselves the other 3 nights (buy your food in Twizel).

We have only positive things to say and can highly recommend staying here!

Really nice place to stay. Modern, stylish, comfortable and 3 mins drive to town centre. Nothing missing, the kitchenette was well equiped and the bathroom/shower was huge and lux for a motel. Good noise insulation, I didn't notice the road outside at all. I would stay here again.

The room was perfectly clean and the woman who checked us in was very friendly and welcoming. We appreciated having a little kitchenette, and everything worked perfectly. We also appreciated the email they sent ahead of time reminding us that there aren't any food stores in the village.

The only thing that wasn't perfect was the mattress. Our room (4, I believe) had 2 beds and one of them had such a mushy mattress we couldn't use it. I did let the office know and they told me they'd look into it, so hopefully that won't be an issue for the next guest.

Great motel. Spacious modern rooms with a nice little kitchenette (microwave, small fridge, 2 burner electric stove).

Laundry facilities well stocked - 2 top loading washers and 2 dryers. Was $4/load to wash and $5/load to try. Change available at check-in, and laundry powder complimentary. Also provides 2 complimentary air-dry racks.

Check-in after 2pm is enforced - when busy the staff is focused on prepping the rooms, so if you are early go for a hike or explore the visitor center.

Only a few restaurants in the Mount Cook village, and no stores to buy groceries, so make sure to bring items with you if you plan to cook or have snacks.

Room #17 had a nice view of the trees / mountain through one of the windows in the room.

Very few choices in Mount Cook Village and all are expensive given the location, but we were glad we booked here. Clean, comfortable, modern and clearly the location is wonderful. We would stay again.

Only one minor feedback - They do seem very keen for you not to cook in the room given the chance of smells lingering for the next guests - understandable, but we didn’t see any kind of extractor fan in place, so perhaps thats part of the issue.

Thank you for your review, we do ask guests not to cook odorous food, this would be strong smelling spices, seafood, offal etc.
other types of food are ok and we do sell some food items that are generally cooked in the rooms.
Most guests prefer to walk into a room that is clean and not filled with odours from prior guests.
thank you.

Aoraki Court is one of my most memorable places I have stayed in New Zealand (outside of mountain huts) and I have always wanted to return. I finally got my second chance six years later. The drive to the motel is along the milky-turquoise Lake Pukaki with Mount Cook in the background. It is a very scenic drive. The hotel is located at the far end of the lake. The color of the lake changes throughout the day as the sun angle changes and is worth seeing at different times of days. The motel’s location enables you to easily see and explore the area at different times of day.

In terms of the motel, it felt like our own private cabin as the buildings are single story with a reserved parking spot outside your door. Our room was quiet, comfortable and spacious. On my first trip, just after New Years, I remember walking into a nicely heated room as a storm had just set in. My last trip also had some wind which the room does a decent job of blocking the noise. We enjoyed sitting in the chairs looking out the windows at the mountains, watching the weather and timing our hikes around the changing conditions. The rooms have kitchenets, which we utilized for meals and enjoyed our relaxing time in the room. We also went next door to the bustling Hermitage for coffee. The Hermitage has better views of Mount Cook, but is more expensive and is a large hotel with lots of tourist passing through during the day. Aoraki Court was one of our most memorable experiences in New Zealand and would recommend it to others visiting the South Island.

Tip, I would recommend planning on having an extra full day here by spending a night or two here, since Mount Cook may not be visible some days. On my first trip, I only saw it around sunset on my drive to the motel. The next day was stormy and I never saw it. On my second trip, the mountain was covered the whole day we arrived and only came out in the afternoon of our second day. Your last day here could be contingency day if the weather has cooperated here you can carry on early to your next destination giving you a little weather flexibility at two of your destinations.
