We've been coming to The Hermitage regularly for 12 years and the new general manager has been putting his mark on the place. He's available, talks to guests, asks for feedback and appears very genuine. Last time we came he'd been in the job 2 weeks and a lot of the food and beverage just wasn't smooth. This time.. What a difference six months makes. Superb food and slick, friendly, knowledgeable service staff. I love having cooked fresh dishes at breakfast but still being able to peruse continental at leisure. Dinner service was fabulous. We had a waiter called Perfect and he really was. Friendly and genuine, great food suggestions, checking in with us regularly but not invasive to our conversation or experience. Highly recommend a la carte at night. Altogether superb.

We booked a 2 night explorer package, which included a room with a great view out to Aoraki/Mt Cook, and the package came with a 3 course dinner in the Alpine View Restaurant for one night and breakfast for both mornings. We really enjoyed the dinner, very tasty, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast included a cooked breakfast of pretty much any combination of traditional breakfast fare you wanted, cooked for you by friendly chefs and was accompanied by a buffet including fresh fruit, cereals, pancakes etc. A lovely way to start the day in a very relaxed setting with amazing views of the mountains. We also went on the boat trip around the glacier lake, very friendly and competent guide, and so relaxing watching and listening to the icebergs rumbling and turning over. Lots of walks to do close to The Hermitage too. Lunchtime options were limited, as some of the cafes and restaurants are closed in the village due to covid reducing tourist numbers, but we ate in the bar area at the Hermitage, very nice pizzas, flatbread with hummus, nacho options, and of course burgers and chips. The 3D movie was also fun, and gave a good overview of the mountain. All in all, a very relaxing weekend away, lots to do, lots of great food , very friendly staff. We highly recommend that package, and thought it was good value for money.

Room tip: We had a room on around the 4th floor of the main Hermitage building, and the views were spectacular.

Wonderful 2 night stay- unbelievable views and walks. The view out the window is second to none in the world. The hotel was brilliant and so was the service. Delightful staff and excellent food. This is a must stay for kiwis and tourists- when they return alike.
Check in staff, dining staff and in the adventure info- all excellent- thanks Perfect (name) for a wonderful dinner. Also the 3D movie was really spectacular. The Heli hiking tour on the glacier- one of those to be remembered all your life.

Room great service wonderful, can't say much good about the food in the bar. Views awesome, walks and such around easy enough for an old man. The building and surroundings are a step above the normal and priced at a very reasonable rate for what you get.

We ate in the "Bar Restaurant" . The menu is extremely limited. As there is only one other venue which is not always open for dining at Mt Cook, The Hermitage, by default, holds the monopoly. We ordered a meat dish for $68 to share for 2. This dish consisted solely of chips and one large portion of steak on the bone. Once the meat was taken off the bone the edible quantity decreased. This was presented literally spread out over a wooden tray. Chips on the base, steak on top and a tray. That was it!. No garnish, no salad not even gravy.. Steak and chips for $68.00. !!! I need say no more as this experience speaks for itself.

Dear gayle h

Thank you for choosing to dine at the Snowline Bar at the Hermitage Hotel Aoraki/Mount Cook on your recent visit to the National Park. We are always happy to have those staying at other accommodation providers dine with us during their stay.

Thank you for your feedback on our 500g steak dish offering. Although we have received positive feedback up until this point your review has prompted a revisit of this menu item and a subsequent change. A salad has been added to the offering to add to the value for those ordering.

We hope you will return to the National Park in the near future and you may consider staying with us here at the Hermitage on this return visit.

Kindest Regards
